Self-love isn’t about always being the best version of yourself.
Sometimes it’s saying no, even when it makes you feel guilty.
Sometimes it’s choosing rest, even when your brain tells you you haven’t earned it.

Science calls it interoception: your body’s way of telling you what your mind hasn’t caught up to yet.

Try this head-to-toe check-in to calm your system, regulate emotions, and reconnect.👇

🧠 Head racing? → Brain dump + breathe
😬 Jaw clenched? → Open wide + massage
🪨 Shoulders heavy? → Roll them + let go of the “shoulds”
💓 Chest tight? → Breathe in 4, hold 4, out 4
🌀 Stomach tense? → Sip something warm + ask what’s going on emotionally
🦶 Legs restless? → Walk, stretch, or ground down barefoot

In the 1960s, psychologist Martin Seligman gave dogs mild shocks.

🐶 Group A:
Dog gets a shock → presses a button → shock stops.
✅ Learns: “I can control this.”

🐶 Group B:
Dog gets a shock → no way to stop it.
❌ Learns: “Nothing I do works.”

Later, both dogs are placed in a box where they can easily escape the shock…

Group A escapes.
Group B stays put.

Group B had developed learned helplessness and gave up, even when freedom was right there.

👤 Just like us, when we’ve been hurt or let down too many times.

But here’s the truth:
💡 Learned helplessness is learned — and it can be unlearned.
With support, self-compassion, and small steps, you can reclaim your sense of control.
