- Adult men is 8 mg/day
- Adult women (19-50) is 18 mg/day
- Women +51 is 8 mg/day
Iron rich food includes:
🥩Lean meat, seafood, poultry, and tofu
🥣 Iron-fortified breakfast cereals and breads
🫘 Legumes and beans such as kidney beans, lentils and chickpeas
🌰 Nuts and some dried fruits, such as apricot
👇🏻Here’s some strategies to help you improve your iron intake:
🥣 Breakfast: Opt for iron fortified cereal such as weetbix - add nuts and/or dried fruit
🍲 Lunch/dinner: Choose iron rich food such as eggs on toast OR beans salad OR beef/tofu stirfry - Serve with veggies
🥜 Snacks: Work smarter not harder. Again choose snacks that are a good source of iron. Examples include: canned chickpeas, handful of nuts such as cashews and dried fruit such as apricot, apple with peanut butter.
