🦵 What is Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS)?
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, often called “runner’s knee,” is a common condition that causes pain at the front of the knee or around the kneecap (patella). It’s typically worsened by activities like:
• Going up or down stairs
• Squatting
• Prolonged sitting
• Running or jumping
It’s usually caused by poor patellar tracking, muscle imbalances, or overuse.

đź’ˇ How Can Physiotherapy Help?
Physiotherapy is the first-line treatment for PFPS and can provide long-term relief without medication or surgery.
âś… 1. Strengthening Weak Muscles
Targeting the quadriceps (especially the VMO), glutes, and hip muscles to improve alignment and reduce patella stress.
âś… 2. Manual Therapy
Hands-on techniques to release tight muscles (like the ITB, TFL, and lateral quads) and improve knee mobility.
âś… 3. Movement & Gait Correction
Addressing faulty movement patterns, foot posture, and technique during activities to prevent recurrence.
âś… 4. Pain Management
Using taping, dry needling, ice, or therapeutic modalities to reduce pain during the early stages.
âś… 5. Education & Load Management
Helping you modify activities and gradually return to exercise with the right intensity and technique
