The idea of cutting Support Coordination funding for NDIS participants is not a good one. It will work against the very principle that underpinned the establishment of the Scheme – giving Choice and Control to NDIS participants.

As it is, the NDIS is a huge complexity even for staffers of the agency (NDIA) that operationalizes it. You can then imagine the confusion NDIS participants and their informal support persons are thrown into, daily, as they try to navigate the convoluted system.

By reasons of their disability and/or social economic status, very many NDIS participants lack the knowledge and confidence to interact with the NDIS and the provider landscape unsupported. Support Coordinators assist NDIS participants make sense of the Scheme. They simplify the complexity and provide useable vital information that empower participants to engage the system and make informed decisions. Engagement and decision ownership are critical for participant to achieve Choice and Control.

Support Coordinators do their utmost to ensure NDIS participants have as much stress-free NDIS experience as possible. They need support, appreciation and encouragement. The talk about defunding Support Coordination does the very opposite.
