Lets talk about Obesity &… Pregnancy!

Today, 4th March 2024 marks World Obesity Day.

This year’s campaign highlights the need to look at the world-wide complexities of obesity and how different factors, for different people in different countries and cultures influence health outcomes for the individual.

We know that obesity in pregnancy can impact the health of both mother and child, and increases the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth. Here at PreBabe, we want to start the conversation that highlights how obesity is connected to a host of global issues, and how we can help change the outcomes of women who have overweight or obesity before, during, and after pregnancy, while reducing misconceptions and stigma.

We are here to help! With our ongoing conversations around living with obesity and preconception health, our program provides the education and support needed to achieve a healthier lifestyle before your pregnancy.

Sign up for free today at www.prebabe.com.au and keep the conversation going on World Obesity Day 2024.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is common in women of reproductive age and is associated with hormonal imbalance and problems with metabolism.

PCOS can affect the body’s ability to use the hormone Insulin, this can make it hard for women with PCOS to fall pregnant and maintain a healthy weight.

Weight loss is not a cure for PCOS, but a healthy diet and exercise can help improve the way your body uses insulin, helping to regulate your hormones.

If you are considering trying for a baby and have PCOS, or are living in a larger body, consider joining PreBabe. PreBabe is a government funded pre-pregnancy weight loss study where you can receive support to fall pregnant at your healthiest.

Today is World Diabetes Day 2023!

Gestational Diabetes or GD is where pregnant women are diagnosed with an abnormal amount of glucose in their blood during pregnancy.

Having a high blood glucose during pregnancy can impact your pregnancy care, your birth choices and even your baby’s growth. Children born to women with GD have higher rates of diabetes themselves.

Although there are many risk factors for GD that cannot be controlled, like your ethnicity and family history, one risk factor that can be changed is BMI. Women with higher BMI’s are more likely to develop GD.

If you are living with overweight or obesity and are considering becoming pregnant, reduce your risk of GD by joining PreBabe, a government funded preconception study. You will receive support to reduce your BMI that is free and confidential. Visit PreBabe.com for more information.
