Myth buster Monday!
What do you put on your burns? Have you heard of these myths?

Here’s what to do instead 👇
If your child suffers a burn:  
🚿 Apply cool running water to the area for 20 minutes to cool the skin and stop the burning process.
❤️‍🔥If possible, remove clothing, nappies or jewellery near the burn
❤️‍🔥 cover the burn with a non stick dressing or cling wrap and seek help for any red flags!
🤨 Still unsure? 📞 Call on 1800 022 222 for advice or in an emergency (large burns, burns to face, neck or airway) call Triple Zero (000) or 112 on your mobile 📱

Most burns are accidental.  Knowing what to do if a burn occurs can reduce the severity of the injury. Book a first aid class today. It’s never too late to learn potentially life saving skills 🤩

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, I’m still here! 👋

Welcome to our new followers 🥹🥹🥰 (and hello to my beloved ones too!) ✨ It’s so nice to have a community of parents and caregivers who want to feel more confident and empowered with their little treasures!

Here’s a few things about me!
✨ I’m Stacie, co-founder of Little Treasures First Aid.
✨ I have over 12 years paediatric nursing experience, including 6+ years as paediatric intensive care nurse
✨ I currently work as a clinical nurse educator in Sydney! I love my job! 💗
✨ I have a post graduate degree in advanced nursing in critical care
✨ I have completed a certificate IV in Training and Assessment (yes I teach certified classes!)
✨ I am a mum to a little girl! 👧 she is my world 🥹

Together with a good friend of mine Dr Dante, we would have many conversations sharing devastating stories about our little patients, then we had a thought, who else should empower parents on all things cpr, first aid, illnesses and red flags in kids than a paediatric nurse educator and an emergency doctor? Then we created little treasures first aid 😌

Did you know? 😮
Babies are nasal breathers! This means they can have trouble breathing and can feel uncomfortable when sickness occurs in this age group. Due to congestion in the nose.

When your little one is congested, we recommend the following:
* Saline spray up the nose to loosen secretions
* Gentle suction of the nasal passages using a nasal aspirator (electric or manual, depending on preference!)
* Suction pre feeds - so they feed better!
* Steam can help also! (not in direct contact with hot water/hot vaporiser due to risk of burns)

Here are my top tips as a paediatric nurse, educator, first aid trainer and a mum for starting solids😂🥰 I have been in the position on starting solids with my little one and watching her navigate through the different textures and flavours. Here are some of my top tips I have found helpful for when you’re about to embark on the journey of starting solids with your little treasures!! 🍎🍐🍌🍇🍓🥑🥦🌽🥕

🚨 Red Flags of Gastroenteritis in Young Children! 🚨

👶 Age Less than 6 Months? 🍼
💔 Significant Abdominal Pain? 😖
🤢 Bilious Vomiting? 🤮
Gastroenteritis can be tricky to identify in young children and more serious conditions such as urinary tract infections and surgical tummy pathology (such as bowel obstruction or appendicitis) can sometimes initially be misdiagnosed as gastroenteritis.

That’s why we’re here to help you recognise some of the RED FLAGS that might help you identify that something else is up! 🚩
👉 AGE LESS THAN 6 MONTHS: Babies younger than 6 months are more vulnerable to infections, and gastroenteritis can hit them hard. This is because they have little fluid reserves and can become dehydrated quickly. Keep a close eye on their input (drinks and ability to hold them down) and output (wet nappies). If these drop off, generally by > 50%, you should seek medical attention!
👉 SIGNIFICANT ABDOMINAL PAIN: Watch out for your child showing signs of severe stomach ache and discomfort. If they seem to be in distress, it’s essential to consult a doctor for proper evaluation as it’s uncommon for gastroenteritis to cause high levels of pain.
👉 BILIOUS VOMITING: Bilious vomiting refers to vomit that is greenish in colour. If you notice this in your child, DO NOT ignore it! It might indicate a more serious issue that requires prompt medical attention.

So, next time you think your child has gastroenteritis or you’ve seen a health professional and been told that they do (especially in the early stages), remember these red flags and seek medical help urgently if they arise. Early detection and timely action can make all the difference! 🏥💙
