Everglow Therapy is proud to be a member of the Welcome Here Project

While we don't have a shop front to display the sticker, Percy and I had to have a photoshoot with it to celebrate.
In the meantime you can find the Welcome Here logo on our website!

Throughout the year I'll be sharing ways you can get involved as well as important days in the LGBTQIA+ calendar.

As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself I am so excited that World Pride is in Sydney this year and I'm looking forward to getting involved in as many events as possible. If you're on the Northern Beaches and surrounds check out who is organising some very cool events coming up soon.

Happy Valentine's Day from Everglow Therapy ☀️

Don't have someone to spend it with? When was the last time you did something nice for yourself? Here's your chance. These are just a few ideas of things you can do to show yourself some love, but you can really choose anything you enjoy and do that!

And remember, you don't have to wait for Valentine's Day to do any of this.

Occupational therapists work across all areas of the community depending on their focus area. These include hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, clinics and out and about in the community.

At Everglow Therapy I am mobile which means I come to you - this can mean we meet at your home, at school or even at a cafe! It all depends on your goals and interests.

Many people don't know just how varied the work of an OT is. Do you know all the places you might find an OT at work?

Week 1 done and dusted! How many ways did you find that won't work?

This week Percy has discovered a route around the side of the house to get into the front garden. So far, I've discovered 3 different ways that don't stop him from doing that. I wonder how many more ways I can block off the route that won't work until I find one that does! 🧐

I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable weekend, however that looks for you ☀🍕🏀🐕🙏🏃‍♂️🌊🧘‍♀️

Setting goals may seem straight forward, but there's ways we can plan that give us the best chance of success.

I'd love to hear your goals in the comments!

[Image 1: A pale brow background with the text: "Why Set Goals?"]
[Image 2: A brown background with two pink paint strips. The text reads: "Research tells us that people who set and write their goals down are more likely to achieve their goals than those who don't. If you check your goals regularly, talk to other people about your goals and work with a health professional then you're even more likely to achieve them! (Harkin et al., 2016)"]
[Image 3: The acronym S.M.A.R.T set out on a sliding scale drop down list.]
[Image 4: S - Specific. Examples: Get better at running to Run 5kms in 30 minutes, read more to Read 12 books, learn to play the guitar to Learn the cords to 'Wonderwall', Get better at cooking to Learn how to make spaghetti Bolognese.]
[Image 5: M = Measurable. Examples: How will you know you've achieved your goal?
Time: I am aiming for a specific time i.e 5kms in 30 mins, make a meal in 45 mins.
Number: I will complete a certain number i.e read 12 books, learn 1 song.
Perceived progress: How well I feel I can do the task i.e 1/10 (terrible) - 10/10 (perfect). Consistency: How many times I complete the task in a time period i.e 5 times per week, once a month.]
[Image 6: A = Achievable: Is the goal possible to achieve in the timeframe?
Goals that are hard to achieve and challenge us are great, but we also want to make sure some of our goals are within reach. Breaking big goals down into smaller ones can help with this"]
[Image 7: R = Relevant. Questions to ask yourself: Do I actually want to achieve this goal? Will this goal help move my life more in the direction I want it to go in? Why is this goal important to me?]
[Image 8: T = Time Bound: When will I achieve this goal? Choose a date to check in. Schedule time to assess your progress and adjust the plan as needed!]

Typically, health services are split into child (up to 18) and adult (18+) age ranges. I'm doing something different at Everglow Therapy by offering services specifically for young people aged between 12-25 years old. Why?

I agree with the emerging research that this age range is incredibly unique in the challenges, development and needs when compared to typical child and adult needs. The current models of services don't adequately address this unique period and often leaves young people stuck in the middle at a time where they are at most risk of developing a mental illness.

My mission with Everglow Therapy is for all young people to have access to youth-friendly healthcare when they need it, where they need it and how they need it. This is only the beginning!

If you or someone you know think that I could help you then please head to my website (link in bio) and send in a referral or submit a contact request!

Despite having the highest rates of mental illness only 13% of young men and 31% of young women access mental health care. When we work towards our goals and see how much more there is to go, we can feel disheartened at the distance. You've already started on the journey and begun to make progress, seek support when you need or want it and keep working.

Because as the quote says "if I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now."

I wish you a restful and fulfilling weekend 🎉

Meet the youngest member of the Everglow Therapy team - Percy! 🐕

Percy is only a baby and so his only current work responsibilities is learning how loved he is. When he is older, he will train to be a therapy dog so he can join Ellen as the official CEO (Chief Engagement Officer) of Everglow Therapy.

I'll be sharing training updates as he ages so be sure to watch for those!

When there's a gap between where our life is now and where we want it to be, there are often feelings of sadness, overwhelm, anxiety and depression. Often the bigger the gap, the bigger the emotions are. There's no one quick "fix" to managing these feelings or changing your life instantly, but the changes you want are usually always achievable, it's about finding the right approach to get there. The goal might change on the way and that's okay too! Remember: it's not about doing one big thing to achieve your goals, but each little step on the way is what adds up to see change.

I'll share more about goal setting and breaking down goals into achievable chunks soon!

And if you're struggling in the middle of January with the pressure of "new year, new me", know that just because it's a new year doesn't mean you have to change at all, do what's best for you and there are plenty of other opportunities to make changes later if that's what you want to do!

I wish you all a weekend that serves you in the way you need it 💅👩‍🦽🚶🏃‍♂️🌳🍕⛹️‍♀️🤸‍🏞🧘‍♀️
