Hybrid work hasn’t reduced the need for connection — it’s made it harder to achieve by accident.

When teams are split between home and office, early signs of isolation, stress or disengagement are easier to miss. And once issues escalate, support often becomes reactive rather than preventative.

Peer support offers a practical way to close that gap.

Not as a “nice to have”, but as a structured, low‑barrier system that helps people access support early before wellbeing or performance are impacted.

In this article, we explore:

✔ why hybrid work increases psychosocial risk
✔ how peer support works in practice
✔ what effective peer support looks like in modern workplaces

National Reconciliation Week 2026 | All In

This National Reconciliation Week (27 May–3 June), the theme "All In" is a reminder that reconciliation is not passive work — and not something First Nations peoples should be expected to carry alone. It requires consistent action, shared responsibility and long‑term commitment across Australian workplaces.

At Altius, we are committed to playing our part. Through our Reconciliation Australia‑endorsed Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we are taking deliberate steps to learn, listen and build respect — recognising this is only the beginning of a long and necessary journey. Our commitment to social responsibility also extends beyond Reconciliation, with a focus on making a positive contribution to the communities where we live and work.

Being "All In" means moving beyond statements and taking responsibility for the choices, systems and behaviours we influence every day — in leadership, in workplaces and in community.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself. It happens when all of us show up.

You may have seen that the People at Work (PAW) survey is being decommissioned in 2026.

What hasn’t changed is the requirement for employers to identify, assess and manage psychosocial risks.

At Altius, psychosocial risk assessments have never depended on a single survey tool. Our psychologist‑led process brings together data, consultation and practical action planning. Our assessments will continue to incorporate a validated tool beyond the decommissioning of the PAW survey.

We continue to support organisations with compliant, validated psychosocial risk assessments as part of business as usual.

Tools may change. Employer obligations do not.

If you’re planning a psychosocial risk assessment or want to understand what comes next, we’re here to help. Talk with Altius 📱1800 258 487

Burnout is already costing organisations more than many leaders realise.

🔹Workplace burnout is estimated to cost Australian businesses $14 billion each year
🔹Mental health claims account for around 12% of all claims, with median compensation more than four times higher than physical injuries
🔹Nearly 70% of executives say they are considering leaving for a role that better supports wellbeing

These numbers point to a systems risk and not just to a wellbeing trend.

In our recent Workplace Wellbeing Spectrum webinar, we explored what this data actually means for employers and why burnout shows up first in workload, leadership pressure, and job design, long before it appears in claims or turnover reports.

If burnout is starting to surface in conversations with your executive team… and even if it’s not, this recording provides a grounded, evidence based way to connect safety, wellbeing and performance without relying on one size fits all solutions.

At its heart, EAP is simply a good EAR.

Whether it's to push performance levels, prepare for an important milestone, or manage the stress of work and/or personal life - we're here for you.

EAP....how will you use yours?

IDAHOBIT (17 May) marks the day, in 1990, homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organization’s classification of diseases.

For workplaces, it’s a useful moment to pause and reflect. Research shows many LGBTQIA+ people still carefully assess whether it feels safe to be visible at work, and small, everyday signals can meaningfully shape that experience. 🌈🤍

This carousel shares a few practical reflections for leaders and HR teams thinking about how safety, dignity, and belonging show up beyond a single awareness day.

Healthy workplaces do not happen by accident. They happen by design.

Altius develop the Workplace Wellbeing Spectrum on the principle that true workplace health is achieved when health, wellbeing, safety, and performance are integrated. This approach ensures that these key elements do not exist in isolation but instead work together, creating a supportive and effective work environment.

After a serious workplace incident, people rarely remember policies.

They remember how their organisation responded.

A critical incident response provides structured, professional support in the hours and days following a traumatic event. It focuses on immediate psychological care, practical guidance, and early identification of those who may need further support.

For Australian employers, access to clinical support at any time of day is not a “nice to have”. It forms part of a responsible approach to workplace health and safety, particularly where there is exposure to trauma, violence, sudden loss or serious injury.

This article explains:
• what critical incident response actually involves
• how early, clinician‑led support assists recovery
• why consistency, timeliness and clinical oversight matter

Written by Ben Paris, Registered Psychologist & PeopleSense Principal Account Manager, it provides a clear, evidence‑based overview for HR leaders and people managers who want to understand their options before an incident occurs.
