Awarded Dux in his final year of studies at University of Notre Dame, Australia, Dr Jobe Shatrov completed training in orthopaedic surgery in February 2019. An orthopaedic knee surgeon, at the forefront of research, innovation and teaching, he has completed prestigious fellowships, including at the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in France focusing on robotic knee surgery; and the Centre Orthopedic SANTY, a leading treatment centre for professional footballers from across Europe, focusing on ACL and sports knee injuries. He continues this work with elite athletes at his final fellowship at the Fortius Clinic in London, UK.

A cutting-edge researcher, Dr Shatrov has published widely and received domestic and international awards. He continues to be involved in international collaborative research in robotic knee arthroplasty, ACL and sports knee surgery. He is a sought-after speaker and, when in Australia, is also hands-on teaching orthopaedic trainees for the Australian Orthopaedic Association and other bodies.

Upon returning to Sydney, aside from resuming his full-time position at Hornsby and Kur-ring-gai Hospital, he will complete his PhD at the University of Sydney, focusing on the topic of the patellofemoral joint in total knee arthroplasty.

Dr Alex Nicholls is a dedicated specialist knee surgeon, treating all adult and paediatric knee conditions. He has particular interests in sports knee injuries, arthroscopic ligament reconstructions (ACL reconstruction), and management of arthritis in younger more active patients. He also performs knee replacement surgery utilising robotic and navigation techniques.

Dr Nicholls has worked and trained in the USA and the United Kingdom where he undertook specialist fellowships in Sports Knee Surgery, Arthroplasty and Paediatric Orthopaedics. In Sydney, he trains orthopaedic surgeons through his involvement in the Australian Orthopaedic Association registrar program and international orthopaedic surgeons through his role as a fellowship supervisor at Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute. In 2009, he was awarded a Masters of Science at Oxford University (UK) for his research into osteoarthritis and continues to have a strong focus on improving patient outcomes via clinical research.

Dr Nicholls is an active member of the Australian Knee Society, the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society. He is currently the Head of Orthopaedics at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Dr Nicholls operates at The Mater Private Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital and The Children’s Hospital.

Dr Brett Fritsch is one of the country’s leading Orthopaedic Surgeons specialising exclusively in knee surgery, with extensive local and international expertise. He has particular interests in ACL and complex ligament reconstruction, robotic knee replacement surgery, limb realignment, and in utilising and pioneering the latest technology and research.

Dr Fritsch is a Director of the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute, Vice Chairman of the Knee Sports and Preservation Committee for the International Society of Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), and the Research lead for the Orthopaedics Robotics program at the Institute for Academic Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is an active member of numerous other national and international organisations including the Australian Knee Society, the Magellan society, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Fritsch completed his Orthopaedic training in Sydney before being selected for prestigious fellowships at Duke University, North Carolina, USA and the Alps Surgical Institute in Annecy France. His background as an elite level sportsman and work with elite athletes has stimulated his interest in techniques for returning all patients to their recreational and occupational activity of choice and prolong a lifetime of activity. Brett performs surgery at The Mater Private Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals in Sydney.

Amongst Australia’s most experienced orthopaedic knee surgeons, in his 20 years’ experience, Associate Professor David Parker has dedicated his career to improving patient outcomes. He has particular interests in sports injuries, ligament reconstruction, realignment surgery and cartilage pathology, and robotic knee replacement surgery.

As a leader in the field, he has significantly contributed to the improvement of knee surgery and is sought after domestically and internationally to share his clinical skills and knowledge. Passionate about sport, he is actively involved with international orthopaedic and sports medicine organisations, including being Vice-President of ISAKOS (International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine), Past President of APKASS (Asia Pacific Knee & Arthroscopic Surgery Society), and a board member of the ACL Study Group. He has extensive experience with athletes at all levels, from recreational to elite, and has served as a Consultant Knee Surgeon for NRL and AFL teams.

A dedicated researcher, Associate Professor Parker is co-founder of Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI), has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and many textbook chapters, and has been awarded the Australian Orthopaedic Association Prize for Research. He performs surgeries at Royal North Shore, North Shore Private and the Mater Private Hospitals in Sydney.

Dr Myles Coolican is one of Australia’s most influential orthopaedic surgeons with over 30 years’ experience specialising in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee with particular interests in total knee replacement and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Dr Coolican has extensive international and Australian credentials, having trained first in Sydney with subsequent postings at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic in USA and prestigious institutes in the UK.

Recognised for his expertise, in 2000 he was medical officer in charge of Wrestling at the Sydney Olympic Games and the Sydney Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Rugby World Cup, and since that time has been the Test Match Orthopaedic Surgeon for Sydney events of the Australian Rugby Union.

Driven to improve treatment and outcomes in his field, Dr Coolican has actively sought to expand the frontiers of orthopaedic knowledge having co-founded the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI) and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters. Dr Coolican is a recipient of the Australian Orthopaedic Association Research Prize. He currently performs surgeries at Royal North Shore, North Shore Private and the Mater Private Hospitals in Sydney.
