Following on from our previous post on TOG’s and how to dress baby, remember the safe sleep guidelines your midwife or nurse talked to you about?

✔️ Always place baby on their back to sleep
✔️ Make sure baby is in their own sleeping space – cot, bassinet
✔️ Do not let baby’s head or face be covered with cuddly toys, pets, covers etc
✔️ Avoid overheating
✔️ Sleep baby in your room for the first 6-12 months
✔️ Don’t smoke or have others smoke around your baby
✔️Breastfeed your baby for the first 6 months if possible
✔️ Ensure if someone looks after your baby, they understand about safe sleep

Now the cooler weather is approaching, making sure your baby isn’t too cool can be tricky. It is better to add or remove layers as temperature changes. As a guide, dress your baby as you would dress yourself for the temperature of the room. Check a baby’s temperature by feeling their skin on their tummy or back. Their hands might feel cool but this is not an indication of their overall body temperature.

You can opt for blankets or a sleeping bag. Some sleeping bags have a TOG rating. TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade, rating, and it is an indication of how much insulation a fabric provides. In Australia, TOG ratings range from 0.2 – 3.5 with lower graded sleeping bags appropriate for warmer weather, and higher graded sleeping bag for cooler weather. Making sure your baby has a sleep bag specific to where you are (Australia has varying temperatures) and the temperature of the room that the baby is sleeping in.

Our service is a BFHI (Baby Friendly Health Initiative) accredited service and we are being accredited again mid May👶

What does this mean❓ BFHI recognises services that provide a high standard of care when supporting families with their baby’s feeding choices. Our goal is to ensure all families feel informed, supported and respected. We aim to provide a high standard when supporting families with their baby's feeding choice (either breastfed or formula).

The assessors are keen to talk to mothers about their experiences. This is a brief, confidential phone interview about 15 minutes and you may or may not be contacted.

If you are interested please contact our amazing BFHI co-ordinator (named Judy) .tripodi@health.nsw.gov.au

We appreciate your support 💛

It’s that time again!

Daylight Savings is ending! Some children need time to adjust & you might want to gradually bring bedtime or naptime back by 10-15 minutes each day/night for a few nights to allow time to adjust. Other babies and children adjust well and sail through!

Send help to all parents 🆘😆

Playgroups are also a great place to support your child’s development and to connect with other families. Some are ran through local churches, local community centres or through Playgroups NSW. Some are a gold coin donation, and some have a small session cost, some ask you to bring a piece of fruit for morning tea and some prefer you to bring your child’s snacks. Local Facebook groups or mums’ groups will be a good place to ask specific to your area, or you can search through the Playgroups NSW website here :

Did you know?

Your local library is one of the best places to support your child’s development. They often have different age group free activities such as “Baby's love books” or “Busy Bookworms”, “Bop to Books”, school holiday programs and many more great programs, alongside lots of great books and some even have a TOY library!

They are also a great place to connect and meet other families.
