Sue Park Genealogist

Sue Park Genealogist Exploring and documenting family history. Reconnecting with our past. Hi, I'm Sue. I have always been interested in what motivates people to do what they do.

I was born in South Wales, grew up in New Zealand, and have lived in Australia since 1978. After almost 30 years working in marketing, research and business strategy, I took a break and experimented with using my skills and experience in different ways and along the way discovered a passion for family history. I applied my research skills. I connected with relatives, relatives of relatives, and complete strangers as I explored new sources of information and other peoples’ lives, past and present. I was hooked. From 2016 I worked at becoming qualified as a professional genealogist and I am now BA, DipFHS. Through 2020 and 2021, with lots of time at home in Covid-19 lockdowns, I helped a number of friends and relatives make sense of their DNA test results and research their trees. I have realized how many people fail to extract the full benefit from their investment in DNA testing and I am going to show people how they can achieve lots more, and get the same buzz I do! As Lewis Carroll famously wrote - “Begin at the beginning …”
The beginning is with you.

Very special person, was Lil 🙏😍. She was very proud of the fact that she had walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge the day it opened. With all the 90th birthday celebrations for the Bridge yesterday, I have just realised (duhhh) that this was the day before her 20th birthday.
Who are you remembering today? What special thing are you remebering about them?

Start at the beginning...
The beginning is you.
That's the secret to an "ahnentafel" or ancestor chart.
You are #1, your father is #2, your mother is #3, your paternal grandfather is #4, your paternal grandmother is #5, your maternal grandfather is #6 and your maternal grandmother is #7. As you go to each new generation the males are numerically, double the person before, and the females are double +1. Ahnentafel charts are a great way to do a brain dump of what you know about your family tree already. I've developed a chart, not fillable, but scribbable, for getting started. The sort of chart you can feel free to put question marks and arrows on, or say e.g. "Maud/Henrietta, surname n/k". It's a great place to start this journey. PM me with your email address if you would like me to send it to you.

Everyone who received a DNA test kit for Christmas should have received their results by now (if they sent the test off promptly). Did you have any surprises? Im thinking about setting up a private group focussed on DNA. If you are interested, let me know in the comments below or PM me.
