Want more joy?
I believe that to really en-JOY your life you must weave together these four elements-

(If you like an acronym- HERE is a good one )

1. Have a good experience
2. Enjoy it thoroughly - in a whole body way
3. Recall the experience again and again
- vividly bringing it to life again
4. Express the experience in some way- tell someone, draw or write about it - take a picture of it.

Happiness is not so far away from us at anytime. Picture here is of an experience I enjoy - my 5 year old toy poodle Freddy whose favorite place is always right beside me. (It’s mutual!) He is having his best day ever sitting as close as he can while I attend an online training. Just seeing this picture makes me smile .
What are you en-JOYing right now?

Do you have a favorite place that brings you a sense of calm?

We know that spending time in nature can reduce stress and improve immune system function.

BUT - not just when you are there- also when you remember being there!

You can have the benefits that come with your favorite place ( or person, food or pet!) anytime you like!

Take a minute to look at your photos of the place that brings you joy, calm, or peace.

Notice how your body experiences a shift.

This is available to you right now. Want to try?

Effective, positive coping action, can mitigate a sense of helplessness and loss of self efficacy after a traumatic event.

So after the horror of the mass shooting at Bondi last Sunday, we seek to find ways to cope with the traumatic material that we have seen via media outlets, from our friends who were there, or, from our first responders who were there.

This may not seem like a time to be grateful!

But in this way I am - I am so so glad I learned EMDR all those years ago and that I can offer it to our community now.

Because EMDR provides a safe, effective therapy that actually reduces the impact after trauma.

Debriefing doesn’t help and may make it worse.
Going over the material in your mind or watching repeats endlessly doesnt help.

EMDR assists your brain to naturally process the fragments of sensory information activating the ‘here and now’ awareness that it is over now, and naturally allows your mind and body to find and use resources to calm your nervous system (so you can eat and sleep again).

As Dr Seuss wrote “ it is fun to have fun but you have to know how”
So it is with healing.
‘ we are built to heal, but we have to know how’

Do - Seek an EMDR therapist for healing after this event- we are trained in trauma and we know how healing works.
You can - look up the Trauma Recovery Network Australia www.traumarecovery.org or www.emdraa.org.au to find a qualified trained therapist.
Volunteer EMDR therapists have made themselves available for the live online session tomorrow.
The event on Saturday will likely be repeated so if you can’t make it tomorrow, don’t worry. We will keep you updated for future community group sessions as we get them organized.
