What is it?
Your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) has a small disc that helps the jaw open and close smoothly.
When this disc is displaced (or “deranged”), it can affect how your jaw moves.
✅ With Reduction (Clicking Jaw)
The disc moves out of place, but then returns during jaw movement.
Common signs:
🔹 Audible click or pop when opening or closing
🔹 Jaw moves normally, but may feel slightly uncoordinated
🔹 Mild discomfort or tightness
🔹 Often doesn’t limit jaw opening
What it means:
The disc is temporarily displaced but still able to glide back into position. Often manageable with conservative care.
❌ Without Reduction (Locked Jaw)
The disc stays displaced and does not return to position.
Common signs:
🔹 No longer clicking — just tightness or pain
🔹 Jaw opening is restricted or shifts to one side
🔹 Pain when chewing or yawning
🔹 Feels like your jaw is “stuck” or “blocked”
What it means:
The disc is no longer reducing — this can restrict movement and cause more persistent pain or dysfunction.
Let’s figure out what’s going on — and get your jaw moving again.
