If you have a teenager in Yr 11 or 12, you're likely hoping they will do some study / revision over the holidays?
Some teens are great at setting themselves study goals, drawing up schedules, following a plan, ticking things off their list.
Others may feel overwhelmed with assessments, assignments and exam preparation, leaving them unsure where to start.
If your teen is one of the latter, encourage them to break things down into meaningful, bite-sized pieces.
Recently, one of my teen clients and I worked backwards to come up with a plan of attack:
1. How many weeks before her HSC would she need to start consistently revising so that she feels comfortable when the exams start (as opposed to feeling panicked and under pressure - which she wanted to avoid) ?
2. How many past papers would she like to have completed for each subject by the time her HSC starts?
3. How many papers per week would she need to do to reach this target comfortably?
Once we had answered those questions, we worked out a weekly target. The client went home to draw up a schedule so that she had a quick and easy visual of what she would do and when.
By starting with the end in mind, she was able to come up with a plan that was achievable for her, removing the overwhelm.
If your teen needs support managing their goals, their study timetable, their overwhelm, let's chat.
