Life’s too short to invest in relationships that don’t make you feel good. If you have outgrown a friendship or you always come away from a catch up with a friend feeling negative and deflated, then it may be time to identify appropriate boundaries to create distance for your own self care....

As we navigate through life, it's essential to remember that the way people treat us reveals more about their inner struggles than our own worth. Embracing this perspective empowers us to maintain self-confidence, build empathy, and create healthier connections with others. Ultimately, by focusing on our growth and understanding, we can cultivate a more compassionate and harmonious world. Let's be mindful of our responses and embrace the power of empathy as we journey through our lives and relationships.

Be mindful and self aware about the boundaries you create and what you accept from the people you love. We teach people how to treat us in the very early stages of relationships. We can ride the cycle of the behaviours we allow for many years until we decide to actually stand up and insist on something better. We are the creators of our own lives and always have the option to change direction when where we are is not where we want to be. Change begins with you

For those new here, let me introduce myself:
I am a psychologist passionate about helping people to connect meaningfully to themselves and each other. I have an ongoing interest to assist in the understanding and repair of relationships in distress. As the founding director of The Relationship Room Sydney, a practice that specialises in couples and relationship therapy, my focus has been on addressing couples' issues ranging from communication breakdown to relationships in crisis. I have had extensive experience in the critical immediate care of couples experiencing infidelity. Infidelity is an area of particular interest. Every week I see many couples navigating the trauma, confusion, shame and ambivalence of infidelity. Individual clients are also a large part of my practice and the individuals I work with present with a varied range of issues.

There's a lot more to come, stay tuned!

Watering a dead plant doesn't bring it back to life.

Sometimes it's time to cut your losses and move on. Many times, in relationships when there are years of disappointment, resentments and emotional let downs it's just too hard to put the life back into it and goodbye is the best option.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if you're in a manipulative relationship, especially if you have never experienced it before. You often excuse their behaviour with "they had a bad day" or "that's just how they are", but in reality, it could be manipulation…

Comparison is the thief of all joy.

Looking at the world from a place of comparison will stop you from ever feeling truly satisfied ▪️Many people every week tell me their relationship is not as good as other couples they know. ▪️This may or may not be true, however trying to assess your relationship based on how others appear to be will quickly make you feel terrible about yourself and your relationship. ▪️Stay focused on who you are, what you value and what is in your control to change ▪️Remind yourself there is no better than or worse than in relationships there is only difference ▪️It is up to each of us to know what is intrinsically right rather than what is right by comparison
