Got a cupboard full of supplements and feeling overwhelmed? Or maybe you don’t take any and wonder if you should be?

The truth is, what’s the point of taking a supplement if you don’t know if you need it?

Here’s some questions that have literally kept me up at night (😆 yep!) that you may not have considered before:

🌱 Why are we taking nutritional supplements at high doses that can’t be found in foods?
🌱What is the impact of these supplements on our microbiome?
🌱Could taking a high dose of one nutrient effect our levels of another?
🌱Do the nutrients found in supplements work the same way as that same nutrient if found in a food matrix?

I work with my clients to identify exactly what they need, so your body can respond the way it’s designed to.

If you’re tired of being unsure and want a strategy that makes sense, welcome to my corner of Instagram.

Say what!?

It’s true. Bowel frequency ≠ bowel function.

Daily movements don’t rule out constipation—especially if there’s:
• Incomplete evacuation
• Straining
• Poor stool form
• Ongoing bloating

We might need to dive a little deeper looking at things like:
→ motility
→ microbiome diversity
→ nervous system functioning
→ bile flow

Sure, there are some people who need to avoid certain foods (such as individuals with coeliac disease or those with anaphylactic allergies) but in general, most people should be able to tolerate all good quality whole foods.

Many people come to me in the clinic on restrictive diets because they find they are reacting to foods, even healthy whole foods such as FODMAP containing foods, histamine containing foods, sulfur rich foods and the list goes on. If you or your children are reacting to normal whole foods, the food isn’t the issue. You’re not allergic to garlic or onions or blueberries or kombucha. There are ways we can restore the gut-immune interface to lower this reactivity and correct the imbalance that is happening in the gut.

If you’d like more info on this, comment below and I’ll DM you or feel free to book in a free discovery call and we can chat further.

🧬 We start with a genetic test (a simple mouth swab) that gives you insight into WHY you are the way you are.
You’ll get information like how well you detoxify, how prone you are to chronic inflammation, your potential to store body fat and how well you’ll respond to different types of training.
We even get insight into how fast you metabolise caffeine, your chance of developing celiac disease and whether you have an increased need for certain vitamins and minerals.

With this information, alongside your current health status and pathology we know exactly how to proceed. I can help guide you to make changes that will give you the biggest results.

My 5 month Inner code package is powerful and fun and you’ll learn lots about yourself all while upleveling to a new you!

Most people aren’t aware that constipation isn’t just a digestive issue. Slow bowels can also impact hormones.

Estrogen is processed by the liver and sent to the gut for elimination. But when bowel transit is slow, certain gut bacteria can reactivate estrogen, allowing it to be reabsorbed instead of eliminated.

Over time this may contribute to symptoms linked with excess estrogen.

Another reminder that gut health and hormone health are deeply connected.

A quick recipe share featuring two star herbs for reducing bloating and digestive discomfort; cinnamon and cardamon. These herbs have a carminative action which means they can sooth spasms in the smooth muscles of the gut and help to dispel gas and bloating. food is medicine!!
This recipe also features a favourite little fruit of mine, the humble prune- a fantastic functional food for improving slow and sluggish bowel transit time.

These balls make a great pre-workout snack. They can also be enjoyed alongside your favourite herbal tea as a sweet treat that’s actually good for your gut.

Ingredients

1/2 cup pitted prunes
1/4 cup pitted medjool dates
1/2 cup almonds or cashews
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon Chia seeds
1 teaspoon each of cinnamon and cardamom
Pinch of salt

Add everything except the dates and prunes to a blender and pulse. Add the dates and prunes and blend till a sticky dough is formed. Roll into bite size balls.

This recipe makes about 12 small balls so feel free to double it. Store in the fridge for one week or freeze for longer.
