On October 14, we will have an opportunity to be a part of history and make a First Nations Voice to Parliament a reality. With more than 4.4 million people living with disability in Australia, engaging our community could make a huge difference in the outcome of the referendum.

'Understanding the Voice' is a free online event which aims to give us a clearer understanding on what a constitutionally enshrined Voice to Parliament will mean, including:

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is the Uluru Statement from the Heart and where does it come from?
๐Ÿ‘‰ How can listening to community transform the way disability services are delivered in Indigenous communities?
๐Ÿ‘‰ How can we navigate these conversations with our families and peers?

The fantastic lineup of speakers include Elly Desmarchelier, Jade Ritchie (Yes Advocate) and Damian Griffis (CEO, First Peoples Disability Network), and Lawson Broad (CEO, Somerville Community Services).

When: Wed 13th Sep 2023, 1:00 pm AEST

At our Rose Villa house, the young ladies we support all love Christmas and spend the year waiting - anticipating the presents, the family get-togethers, and the general excitement of the season. One of our fabulous support workers, Isabella, has worked with our housemates for 20 months and knows of their love for all things Christmas. So, as a surprise, Isabella arrived for her shift on Christmas morning dressed as Santa!

Lili stared at her with surprise, while Sascha was fascinated by the beard and very much wanted to pull it!

The three housemates and their families so appreciated the time and thought Isabella had put in to surprise them all.

Today is World Autism Understanding Day and the start of World Autism Month!

We know that almost 370,000 Australians are on the autism spectrum and therefore represent a significant portion of our own community across Jigsaw, Avenue, Base Housing Collective, Plus Disability and other Fighting Chance Australia services. Today, we celebrate their enormous contribution to our community and invite you all to learn a little bit more about our neuro-diverse friends so we can all work towards creating a neuro-inclusive world for everyone.

Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has a range of online resources, including a video series on what those living with autism want you to know! http://ow.ly/yoS750Nvsoz
