The gut–brain connection is nothing short of extraordinary. 🧠!
We’re learning more every day about how the gut microbiome influences our mood, thinking, and overall mental health. The gut lining is our conduit to the outside world, and what we eat—and the environments we interact with—shape it profoundly.
Jane Dudley’s incredible story shows the power of this connection. After living with severe bipolar disorder for 18 years, she experienced a life-changing turnaround following a series of faecal microbiota transplants (althought all DIY, there are proposals for larger clinical trials now!) . But that wasn’t the only shift—she also transformed her eating habits, removing almost all ultra-processed foods and focusing on real, whole foods.
If you’re eating whole, unprocessed food, you’re making a phenomenal step toward better gut health.
In metabolic psychiatry, we see how a ketogenic dietary approach can help manage—or even put into remission—serious mental illness. This story highlights another tool that may work hand in hand.
