When Napoleon Bonaparte died in 1821, his doctor Francesco Antommarchi performed an autopsy on him — and reportedly cut off his p***s. Some say that his chaplain, Abbé Ange Paul Vignali, bribed him to do so because Napoleon had once offended Vignali by calling him impotent. The chaplain then smuggled the organ out of St. Helena, and it remained in his family until 1916. ⁠

The amputated p***s then passed through the hands of various owners and even went on display at the Museum of French Art in New York City in 1927. Eventually, it came into the possession of American urologist John K. Lattimer, who kept it in a briefcase beneath his bed and refused to let anyone photograph it because he wanted to “treat it with dignity.” The body part remains with Lattimer’s family to this day — though collectors have offered to buy it for as much as $100,000.
