I was delighted to contribute to this article on why in 2023 there is still so much silence, shame and lack of acknowledgement given to the deep impacts of pelvic organ prolapse 🤯

Bravo for such a well written piece for the . This is not an easy topic to talk about and it certainly isn’t an uplifting s*xy topic to read about, so pieces like these are pivotal to creating change.

I couldn’t be prouder of Kimberley Smith who so bravely shared her own personal story in the article the hopes of helping others feel they are not alone and where they can start.

As discussed in the article I see these conditions on a daily basis on the clinic, and one of the hardest things for me is to sit back and watch women roll in year after year when I know there is so much that can be done to prevent in the first place. 🤯

We are starting to gain some momentum in this Space, so keep talking, keep writing, keep sharing and at some point the health minister might start listening. 👂💰🙏

Another big two days teaching on the Level 1 Pelvic Health and Womens Life stages face to face course for done and dusted . 👏😅

We had such a lovely group of Physio’s who will be a real asset to the Pelvic and Womens Health world once they finish their training💕.

I often get asked how to get started in Womens Health and this APA course is a really great way for to do this. Informative, evidence based and practical.
Well done for putting together such a comprehensive level 1 program. 🙌

Thank you and for bringing Womens Health Physiotherapy into the forefront of birth trauma discussion. 🙌

We play a pivotal role in prevention and recovery from birth trauma and are one of the few health professionals that see women in the months and years following. Truly seeing the impacts that often can’t be seen on the surface.

A 7 minute segment is not nearly enough time to go into just how wide and deep this problem is, but it is a cracking start. 👊

Well done to all involved. All of our voices and advocacy are essential in getting the government and policy makers to pay attention and create an impactful change.

Thank you to the lovely Angelique a patient Women In Focus Physio who was happy to be filmed as apart of the segment. 🙏😌

Please head to ABC iview for the full episode.

And for those triggered by the episode ( and there will be many) please use this as an opportunity to reach out to .org.au, and if you haven’t already find a Womens and Pelvic Health Physio close to you.

📣 ABC 7:30 REPORT TONIGHT: DONT MISS IT.

Just had it confirmed that tonight on the 7:30 report they are doing a report on birth trauma in Australia.

I believe they have interviewed Amy Dawes from .org.au, Prof Hannah Dalen, myself, a number of women that have experienced birth trauma and other experts.

Such an important conversation to be having on this platform. Hopefully the decision makers in this country will watch and understand why things must change. 👊

(I’m really just hoping I did the interview justice 🤞)

Its Birth trauma awareness week and I’m delighted that to kick it off published this piece I penned 🖊 🙌

I dive into the realities of birth trauma, as well as what women can do to better prepare, better recover from birth and advocate for themselves.

In the App one of our key missions is to improving the experience for women and their partners, which is why we have a complete birth preparation series and birth recovery series in the program. 💫

It really is so great for large media outlets prepared to cover this topic. Public awareness and education is essential if a change is to occur.
I would love for you to read the article in its entirety- link my bio ⬆️

And If this article triggers you, please reach out to your health care provider or to .org.au they are a non for profit doing wonderful things in this space to advocate for women. 🙌

Feeling absolutely elated that one of the major womens health issues that I’ve been beating my drum about for well over 12 years is starting to get the attention it deserves. 🙌😌

I am so grateful to the who reached out to talk all things birth trauma and it’s significant ongoing impacts today. A wonderful chat was had and is due to be aired on The 7:30 report in a few weeks time as apart of an investigation.
A change is coming. Chat by chat, interview by interview, we are getting closer 🙏💪

A BIRTH PROJECT WITH THE ABC. 🎧🎤👏

It was an absolute pleasure this week to be interviewed by the on the birthing crisis in Australia, asking the question can and how do we better?
This is an ongoing project that I am delighted to be a part of and can’t wait to see its impact over time.

As a resort of spending my career in the the private and public maternity sectors, as well as completing research in the birth trauma space and being a mother myself , this is a topic that I view from all angles and is incredibly close to my heart.

Thank you to Rhiannon and Kathleen from the ABC for embarking on this project. The women and families of Australia need a change, and high quality journalism is imperative to getting our voices heard. 😌🙌

Influenza got us good. 😩🤧🤒

Public service announcement. Do what I DIDN’T. Get your kids vaccinated.

We are one week into it and one by one it has taken them all down. It’s been rough - the fevers, coughs, body aches, runny noses, vomiting, inability to sleep due to the constant coughing and pain , and bubs reflux has completely flared up due to all the coughing and refusal to take any more meds. 😭

I personally DID get vaccinated ( so haven’t gotten sick 🙏) but I didn’t get around to the kids.🤦🏻‍♀️
Partly being busy, partly waiting till they were ‘well enough ’ and never finding the right window and as much as I hate to admit it partly vaccination fatigue so I procrastinated . Well it’s safe to say I’m regretting that procrastination now! 😬😔

They are anticipating a loooong and nasty flu season, so if you haven’t already been vaxed or had your kids jabbed… it’s definitely not too late! Trust me, you don’t want this. 👎

And a Gigantic shout out to my mum and my sister who stepped up on the weekend to look after the kids. Hubby and I had an event away that had been planned for some time and my legend of a mum took on looking after 3 sick kids so we could still go and have a break Love you my village 😘🙌

Let's BUST some MYTHS and misinformation surrounding Pelvic Organ Prolapse ✨

There is a lot of fear and confusion surrounding prolapse. So this Pelvic Organ Prolapse Awareness Month, I thought I’d bust some myths and incorrect statements I commonly hear.

Myth busting series will be 7 x 3-5 minute videos addressing the following myths over the next 10 days on the page. ✨

Be sure to check them out, share and tag other women that would appreciate some reputable information 😘

MYTH 1 〰️ I am experiencing symptoms of heaviness (in late pregnancy / early postnatal) so I MUST have POP. 😱

MYTH 2 〰️ My OB / GP has told me pessaries are just for old women…….. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MYTH 3 〰️ I’ve been told I have Grade 1 POP and I don’t have symptoms - should I be modifying my workouts? 😬

MYTH 4 〰️ I’ve been told I can’t ever heal my POP - I’m early postnatal - will it ever change? 🤨

MYTH 5 〰️ I’ve been told I should have a C-Section so I don’t make my POP worse. 🤔

MYTH 6 〰️ Is it true I can't run or lift weights with POP? 😫

MYTH 7 〰️ How common is Pelvic Organ Prolapse! Is it really 50% of all mothers?🤨

Appreciating the power of multidisciplinary clinics. 🙌

18 months ago whilst I was in the throws of 1st trimester nausea, discussions began about how women need better access to Endoa**l ultrasound, a**l manometry and specialised pelvic floor and ano re**al assessment +treatment after birth ( how ever long that is), before birth and in between births.

This discussion lead to many meetings which ultimately lead to the birth of in Bondi junction. 🙌

On Monday, after returning from mat leave I finally had the chance to work in the clinic alongside colore**al surgeon Dr Penny De Lacavalerie and what a delight it was.

To be able to listen to womens stories, let them debrief on their birth, their ongoing symptoms and then after detailed questioning and physical assessment, then be able to provide them with accurate objective information about their a**l sphincter muscle and re**al function.

The clinic is definitely a work in progress, but I am so excited after a career of working in this space to be able to offer a multidisciplinary approach to a complex emotional problem in a clinic that has minimal waitlists and testing ON THE SPOT 👏

Thanks to all the health professionals that have already referred their patients in. At this stage we are running one clinic every 4 weeks but are happy to run more once we know their is enough women seeking our help.

So great to work with you on this . Thanks to Goals Bondi Junction for sharing our vision and helping it come to life. 🙏

Big thanks to the incredible Allison Bryant for her wisdom on all things bowels and re**al training. It’s certainly not a pretty topic but one that is so necessary to keep women functioning optimally, happily and confident through their life. ✨🙌

Looking forward to bringing these assessment and treatment tools back to and this week.👏
