Myth: All disabilities are visible.
Ok, so let's work on breaking down some incorrect assumptions.
By helping educate society to better understand more about disability, we can continue to build a warmer and more inclusive world.
----
"But... you don't look disabled?"
The general populace may not know a great deal about disabilities, and many do not understand that disabilities aren't always "visible". This can lead to ignorant comments, misunderstandings, and continued false perceptions.
Disability is often portrayed in entertainment and media as an individual in a wheel chair or with particular visual cues that indicate a disability.
But what is not often taught is that a large percentage of those living with disability don't have "visual cues" to indicate disability. In fact, you may never know somebody lives with disability unless they choose to inform you.
A disability doesn't define a person, but it is part of who they are.
