Professional development ✅

One of my professional goals this year was/is to enhance my skills in eating disorder management to better service my clients managing any form of eating disorder.

Pregnancy, periods, postpartum and hormonal conditions are times of physical change which can trigger underlying or bubbling dysfunctional relationships with food. It’s a space I am passionate to build on 🫶🏽

Normal eating looks different for everyone, but contains threads of similarity.

Life experiences and society’s obsession with diets and body sizes and one-side-only-nutrition arguments can fragment the complicated mechanisms which make listening to our bodies very difficult.

I had this discussion many times in clinic lately, and I love to bring it back to Ellyn Satter’s flexibility of eating.

Pregnancy, postpartum, periods and so forth can be vulnerable times to navigate with food and body changes and the increased risk of forming an unhealthy relationship with food.

While strict food rules are seen as an answer, they have a habit of overcomplicating eating. Flexibility in eating (outside of medically indicated nutrition) can help untangle the webs of complication ☺️
