Self-love isn’t a look. It’s a practice. It’s not always pretty either. 💝

Sometimes it means giving your body rest even when the world says to keep pushing. Sometimes it means choosing food that doesn’t upset your gut even if it’s not what others are eating.

It’s in every small choice to care for your body despite pain. Every time you honour what you need instead of what you “should” be doing... that’s self-love too. 🌸

Have you shown your body a little love today? Share your self-care hacks with fellow spoonies below!

If you haven’t heard of endocannabinoids before, you’ve come to the right place. What are endocannabinoids, and why are they important to chronic pain warriors? Let’s find out. ‼️

Endocannabinoids are naturally produced signalling molecules inside your body. They are vital parts of the Endocannabinoid System or ECS. The ECS is a signalling system that influences various bodily functions, including pain perception and inflammation. 😲

If you think that the word endocannabinoid sounds familiar, that’s because it sounds like cannabinoids, the chemical compounds found in cannabis plants. Cannabinoids help prevent the breakdown of endocannabinoids to help regulate pain for longer periods. ✅

Patience is a virtue, and it is a virtue that can greatly benefit chronic pain warriors. 🧡

A river flows naturally. It moves around obstacles, never forcing its way. It doesn’t panic, it doesn’t rush. Even though the river stays calm, it reaches its destination.

Chronic pain warriors are the same. It’s beneficial to learn how to accept things for what they are and learn how to move around obstacles. There are times that you cannot force chronic pain to go away, and all that you can do is adapt to it.

But like a river, you can find strength in your journey. You can learn to navigate the currents of your experience, allowing your resilience to guide you. Each twist and turn in the path may feel challenging, but with patience and perseverance, you can discover new ways to cope and even thrive.

Manage tasks to conserve your energy. Plan your day to have plenty of rest. Stay calm and composed to avoid stress and prevent inflammation. Embrace the journey, and let it lead you to your destination.

If you think that your gut is just for digesting those burgers and steak fries, think again. Gut health and chronic pain are deeply connected. ‼️

Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria called the microbiome. 😲The microbiome influences inflammation and mood. It also affects how your body perceives pain. The microbiome can also influence peripheral and central sensitisation which are the processes that amplify pain signals so the pain that you feel gets amplified. In addition, the gut microbiome can influence opioid tolerance so opioid painkillers won’t be as effective in managing chronic pain. 🧐

Managing chronic pain is a tricky business, so leave it to the experts! Contact us today at Pain Clinic Australia and let our licensed medical professionals help you manage chronic pain the right way. ✅

Despite pain being one of its common symptoms, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is yet another chronic pain condition that barely gets the limelight.

In MS, the immune system accidentally attacks the myelin which protects the nerves. How does this cause pain? A lot of reasons actually, which are:

💥 Nerve Damage – when nerves get damaged, neuropathic pain occurs which can manifest as random sharp pain or tingling sensations.

💥 Muscle Spasms – with disrupted nerve signals, muscles may tense when they shouldn't, leading to a lot of strain and pain.

💥 Optic Neuritis – the optic nerves suffer from inflammation which can trigger blurry vision and a sharp pain at the back of the eyes.

💥 Trigeminal Neuralgia – while rare, MS can cause a severe, though short-lived, pain in the face because of trigeminal nerve damage.

💥 Lhermitte's Sign – an electric-like pain running down from the base of the neck down to the spine when one tilts their neck forward.

💥 The 'MS hug' – it's the feeling of tightness in the trunk (which can last long) because muscles in the ribs spasmed.

If you're experiencing any of these, please know that they can be managed. We'd be happy to discuss our comprehensive pain treatments. Just send us a DM! 👩🏻‍⚕️💬
