Today is International Day of the Midwife 💜💜💜💜💜
I’ve had a moment to reflect on my career, and just how privileged I feel to have chosen this path.
Midwifery is not an easy job - the shift work, the unsociable hours, the constant unpredictability. Even something as simple as making plans with friends often needs to be organised weeks, sometimes months, in advance. It’s demanding in ways that are hard to explain.
But despite all of that, I feel incredibly lucky to have found a career with such deep purpose.
To be invited into one of the most vulnerable, powerful, and transformative times in a woman’s life is something I will never take for granted. To hold space in moments of uncertainty, to listen, to reassure, to witness strength, to take those first photos of a new life beginning - it is truly a privilege.
I’m so grateful for the journey this career has taken me on - from training and working in London, to working with some incredible colleagues along the way, expanding into different areas of midwifery, working alongside an OB as their practice midwife, and now being able to share my passion and knowledge through Birth & Beyond Education classes here in Australia.
Building a life, career, and business on the other side of the world is something I am deeply proud of.
And now, offering continuity of care through antenatal and postnatal appointments supported by Medicare feels like such an honour. Being able to truly walk alongside women and families throughout their journey is incredibly special 🥹
I am so lucky to do what I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world 🤍
To all my fellow midwives: Happy 🤍🤍
