The reality and lived experience of kids in pain.....

And there is so much more. The effects are often profound and pervasive, impacting all areas of life for these young people and their families / carers.

We need to talk about it more. Kids experience both acute and chronic or persistent pain. It's real. It's hard. It can be devastating for families. But with the right help and support, kids can learn to thrive.

Kids in Pain Week is September 22-28. I am delighted to be involved this year, giving a webinar on Practical OT Strategies for Kids in Pain: Thriving at Home, School & Beyond.

This is more generally about kids in pain, not hypermobility specific, however I hope you might gain something from the session to suppot families and kids in pain.

One kiddo could see all of the following (and more) in a 6 month period.

Key things to remember
😩 Appointment fatigue is real
🤯 Burnout happens to kids & parents
🥺 Seeing new doctors or health professionals can be scary and emotionally overwhelming- for kids and parents.
⛓️‍💥Breaks or mini-holidays from appointments can be helpful
🚑 Medical / Health trauma happens more than health professionals realise.

I love hearing people say this!

I love hearing people say this!

"Some of my best health care appointments have been with occupational therapists. I have truly felt seen with them. We talk and they have me do tests and different things as they observe me.

✍️It is truly amazing to realize all the things they see and then suggest based on the observations. They have advised me on so many things and given good tips. I have received assistive products and braces and they've helped me get my splints.

They have helped me to understand how my body works and why it is good for me to do some things a certain way." 💡
