Is it safe to have breast augmentation surgery with a history of cancer?

Many patients wonder about the safety and timing of breast augmentation after breast cancer treatment. While each case is unique, advances in surgical techniques and oncology mean that breast augmentation can be a safe and viable option for many.

The key is a thorough evaluation by both your surgical and oncology teams to ensure that reconstruction aligns with your health status and recovery plan.

If you have a history of breast cancer and are considering breast augmentation, seeking personalised advice from a qualified specialist is essential to make informed decisions.

Your holiday glow starts in your carry-on.

Travel exposes skin to a range of stressors - from dehydrating cabin air and disrupted sleep, to increased sun exposure and environmental changes. These factors can compromise hydration levels, increase puffiness, and leave skin looking dull or fatigued.

To help maintain skin health while you're away, consider travel-friendly formulations rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and broad-spectrum sun protection.

Whether you’re managing cabin dryness, UV exposure or signs of fatigue, these three SkinCeuticals products are ideal travel companions:

💧 Hydrating B5 Gel – Replenishes moisture and supports skin barrier function with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5.
👁️ A.G.E. Eye Complex – Targets visible signs of fatigue, including dark circles and puffiness, often intensified by travel.
☀️ Ultra Facial Defense SPF50 – Lightweight, broad-spectrum protection against UVA/UVB, ideal for daily wear in any climate.

What is capsular contracture?

Capsule formation is a natural phenomenon that occurs around breast implants. Over time, the capsule that forms can thicken, which may change the shape or position of the breast. This is known as capsular contracture.

In some cases, this can cause discomfort. Treatment typically involves removing both the implant and the capsule. A breast lift with fat grafting may be done to restore volume that’s been lost.

Considering explant surgery? A breast lift may sometimes be performed at the same time.

It all depends on individual anatomy, skin elasticity, and personal preferences. For some, the shape after explant surgery settles well on its own. For others, a lift can help adjust tissue position or contour. Every approach is tailored - and timing and healing are all part of the conversation.

Finding the right surgeon.

It comes down to trust and transparency. Look for a surgeon who listens to you – but is also honest about what can and can’t be achieved.

And always check their qualifications and experience.

Can you breastfeed after breast surgery?

Breastfeeding may still be possible after both breast augmentation and breast lift surgery - but this varies from person to person.

In augmentation, implants are typically placed behind the native breast tissue, so the tissue itself isn’t directly affected and the potential to breastfeed is generally maintained.

In a breast lift, only a small amount of tissue is removed from the lower part of the breast. Most of the tissue behind the ar**la is preserved, which can help maintain the ability to breastfeed - if it’s already present.

It’s important to have an individual discussion about this during your consultation, especially if breastfeeding is a future consideration.

Scars are part of the process - but so is healing.

Knowing where scars are placed and how they evolve over time helps you go into surgery informed and prepared. Every body surgery - whether abdominoplasty, arm lift or thigh lift - has its own scar pattern, but with time and care, they often become softer, flatter, and far less noticeable.

Is eyelid surgery painful?

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is surprisingly not painful for most people.

Dr Johnny uses cooling and icing techniques before and after surgery to help soothe the area and minimise discomfort during recovery.

What are tuberous breasts?

Tuberous breasts are a common developmental variation, affecting an estimated 25% of women. This occurs when the lower portion of the breast doesn’t fully develop during puberty, often resulting in a narrow, tube-like shape. The ar**la may appear larger and more prominent due to herniation.

If surgery is being considered, this condition is taken into account during planning to ensure a tailored approach to the procedure.
