The anti-reflux barrier πŸ›‘οΈ is a natural mechanism at the junction between the oesophagus and stomach 🧬 that helps prevent acid and stomach contents from flowing back up πŸ”. It includes the lower oesophageal sphincter (a ring of muscle) πŸ’ͺ, the diaphragm 🫁, and the angle where the oesophagus enters the stomach πŸ“. When working properly, this barrier opens to let food in 🍽️ and closes to stop reflux, protecting the oesophagus from irritation and damage 🚫πŸ”₯.
