We often talk about stability in healthcare as a numbers game.
However, numbers don’t tell you whether someone is there because they truly want to be or because it’s simply easier to stay.
In conversations Eamon has with doctors, the theme isn’t a lack of options. It’s hesitation. Leaving isn’t just updating a CV. It’s credentialing, compliance, relocating families, learning new systems, and rebuilding professional trust.
It’s stepping back into uncertainty after years of competence.
So people tell themselves they’ll reassess after this term. After the next contract, after things settle down. But slowly, delay turns into direction.
This isn’t about encouraging constant movement, because continuity matters and communities depend on it.
However, it is worth asking, have you chosen your current role recently? Or has it simply continued?
