Following on from our last post about Ginkgo biloba...
An important distinction to be made when looking at the two previously mentioned reviews, is that the studies were investigating the effect of Ginkgo biloba in healthy people.
In a later overview of systematic reviews by Zhang et al. in 2016, the authors concluded that Ginkgo biloba has a clear therapeutic benefit in those with mild cognitive impairment and dementia (always consult with a suitably qualified practitioner to assess your individual health case before using natural medicines).
Cognitive benefits were matched by dose and ginkgo biloba reduced vertigo, tinnitus and headaches.
The jury is still out on whether this herbal medicine can be used prophylactically for dementia in healthy people.
