“I have studied aromatherapy, but I have not formally trained in perfumery. It is still a bold move to call oneself a perfumer; however, I make the distinction by stating I make botanical perfumes to indicate that I do not use fractions or isolates, only whole extracts.” - Suzanne Banks, Banks Botanicals by Suzanne R. Banks

☀️ Suzanne Banks is a very special aromatherapist from Australia. In her practice for the past 25 years Suzanne has had the honour to treat a long list of clients including Kylie Minogue, Louise L. Hay, Wayne Dyer and many other consciousness authors. She is also the author of Revelation! Reveal Your Destiny with Essential Oils.

☀️ Suzanne produced aromatic experiences for major Sydney events, corporate events and retreats including an intensive week meditation retreat with Deepak Chopra ("Seduction of Spirit"). She believes we need to simplify our life and reduce the amount of artificial chemicals in our environment. And what a better way to start than to use all natural botanical perfumes?

☀️ "What's the difference between Aromatherapy and Perfumery? Good question. It's a question I found the answer to before I even thought about it. Perfume and aromatherapy are connected and yet stand alone in their art."

☀️ In the PERFUME Special Edition of Aromatika Magazine read this investigative article written by Suzanne Banks as she introduces us into the differences between making an aromatherapy blend and making perfumes!

Everything’s coming up roses …

Everything’s coming up roses …

The Damask Rose, by its smell and its history has seduced our minds.

Born in Persia over 2000 years ago, it is now grown in Turkey and Bulgaria. With fields and factories owned by Robertet on the spot, we can process the rose immediately after picking and guarantee complete traceability.

The Damask Rose is a hybrid of Rosa Gallica and Rosa moschata, two European species. This flower is used to produce essentially rose absolute, which scent lasts in time by its depth and richness of honeyed notes, but also essential oil which is more volatile, fresh and flowery. However, from the same amount of flowers, we obtain 6 times more absolute than essential oil, which is why the absolute is much more used in fine perfumery.

Rich in phenylétanol, geraniol and citronellol, its smell is rich, deep and fruity with liquorice accents.

There are hundreds of varieties of roses, all wearing unique dresses and with extraordinary scents. However, the fragrant roses used in perfumery are limited in variety, there are only a few varieties in the perfumer's palette.

Mmmm frankincense …

Mmmm frankincense …

Frankincense is a natural oleoresin obtained by exudation of a tree. The man-made incisions on the trunk and branches provoke the flow of white milk, which dry, harden and become translucent to amber colored.

Frankincense is the king of amber perfumes. Used since ancient Greece, it is the most famous sacred scent in the history of religions and faith, it is an ingredient rich in symbolism and odor. It smells woody, fresh and camphorated, while being spicy, peppery, lemony and balsamic. It blends perfectly with sandalwood, pine, vetiver, geranium, lavender, orange, basil, camphor and spices.

Used for amber perfumes, cosmetics and soaps, frankincense also finds its use in aromatherapy, the essential oil of olibanum is used for energizing massages on joints and muscles.
