This Week at Minds At Play: Character Creation Begins!

Our D&D Online Social Group for neurodivergent adventurers is kicking off Term 3 with one of the most exciting parts of the journey—creating your character!

Character creation is where imagination meets identity. Players choose Species, classes, and design backstories that shape how their characters think, feel, and act in the world. And at Minds At Play, we make it even more immersive:

* Bring them to life on our TaleSpire virtual tabletop

Why is character creation important?

It’s a chance to:

1. Explore identity through imaginative roleplay
2. Connect with fellow adventurers before the quest begins
3. Build a character that reflects your creativity, values, and voice
4. Share stories that spark empathy, teamwork, and fun

**Backstory Tips for New Players:

Start small: Where is your character from? What do they want?
Add a twist: What secret or challenge do they carry?
Think relationships: Who matters to them—and why?
Keep it flexible: Your character can grow and change as the story unfolds!

Whether you're new to D&D or a seasoned player, this week is all about creativity, connection, and crafting the foundation for an unforgettable adventure.

Adventurer of the Week: Charlie

This week, we’re celebrating Charlie H for an incredible moment of growth and emotional intelligence during our D&D social groups!

When Charlie noticed his ideas weren’t being acknowledged, he didn’t react with frustration or try to take control of the game. Instead, he paused, raised his hand, and calmly shared how he was feeling. He then accepted that other players might choose a different path—and continued to engage positively with the group.

This moment wasn’t just about communication—it was a powerful example of conflict resolution. Charlie recognised a challenge, expressed himself respectfully, and chose collaboration over confrontation. That’s a huge step forward from earlier terms, where similar situations might have led to in-game tension.

Charlie’s actions show how roleplay, when participated in within a safe and supported space like Minds at Play, can help grow real-world skills like empathy, self-awareness, and teamwork. This was a powerful example of conflict resolution and emotional maturity in action.

Let’s give Charlie a big virtual cheer for leveling up his conflict resolution skills and showing what it means to be a true adventurer!
