Hi,
I just wanted to introduce my child and adolescent psychology practice, Journey Psychology, to everyone .

I've always had an interest in the vast complexity of human emotion and thoughts, coupled with compassion and empathy, and this led me to pursue a career in Psychology. I completed my undergraduate psychology degree at Sydney University and went on to complete a Masters of Counselling and Masters of Clinical Psychology whilst working in the field, focusing on child (5-18 years) therapy. I am a full member of the Australian Psychology Society (A.P.S.). I've held a number of different positions including Community Development Co-ordinator, Youth Health Educator, and spent over twenty years in the Department of Juvenile Justice working clinically with adolescents and supervising other clinicians. I've managed a specialised counselling unit at Stanmore and at Liverpool for several years and held a clinical case load as well as clinically supervising other specialised psychologists. I've operated a private practice in the Sutherland Shire for over 10 years. I specialise working with children and adolescents. I use psychodynamic play therapy as well as other evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy and gestalt therapy. Every young person and their family have a thoughtfully constructed tailor-made therapy plan and is treated gently with the utmost respect.

I look forward to hearing from more parents in the Shire. People are always welcome to call me to discuss whether their child is just going through a "stage" or if therapy may be required. It's often hard to know as a parent. Parenting is truly the hardest job in the world! Every child is different and constantly changing! Please reach out if you need to!

This book contains a magic wand which gives the parents the power to know all the right answers, all of the time.
..I wish, you wish, we all wish!

Sadly, this book has no magic wand. However, it does have some very useful strategies and an understanding that perfect parenting (like magic wands, unicorns, Griffiths, and reliable computer technology) is a myth. The best we can all stride for is 'good enough' most of the time.

Humour is a form of play used by children and adults alike and 'playing' is one of the most effective forms of healing. Planet Parent uses humour to help caregivers, parents and grandparents better understand their child and adolescent. This then creates the space to enjoy the beautiful moments of parenthood and to endure the not-so-beautiful moments. The strategies outlined in this book are drawn from my training and experience as a child and adolescent psychotherapist of over 30 years, and in my hilarious adventures with my own children. It explores the outstanding and distressing facts about babies (I never dreamed you would have to teach babies to sleep), children and adolescents, which I discovered on my journey as a mother. The universal tribulations and pleasures that envelope all parents are discussed to emphasise the truth that parents are not alone (there are many, many of us parents).

This book encourages the understanding that parents have great power to nurture our child's resilience... and that there can be hilarity and fun in the process.
