Migraines 🤕 when the body says NO

Trust me I am not knocking medication. At times it's a god send. It was my migraine medication that I reached for at 2:30am this morning.

If you get migraines, you already do a lot to try to avoid them … diets, restrictions, meds, missing things, managing triggers.

And there are SO many triggers, neck, jaw, eyes, fatigue, hormones, alcohol… it’s a big umbrella.

But underneath that, what's really going on is more...more pushing, fixing, restricting, fear, holding back, stuffing down.

Building internal pressure.

When I say there’s hope, I mean it.
Not overnight hope, the type of long term, change your life for the better hope.

It’s looking deeper.
Making meaningful changes.
Taking the uncomfortable actions.

Not all at once ... bit by bit.
With awareness and support.

I don’t want to rely on migraine medication forever.

And I believe that as I keep doing this work, I won’t have to. 💞

We're all time poor, so I do my best to stack into my day all the things that keep me well, in body, in mind and in spirit.

Between repetitions is a great time for fascia maneuvers, breathwork, mindfulness and neurosomatic movements for the brain 💪💞🙏

I got a bit stuck thinking it's all about mindset 🤯

But the body is where the emotional memories are, and the subconscious is where the old beliefs from those memories sit. That's the way I see it anyway.

You can't force a mindset through sheer discipline (well most people can't), for me I really have to address the body (nervous system, emotional body) first.

I recently co-facilitated a 2 night teen retreat with The Yoga Foundation for the young women of Lillian’s, a service supporting girls aged 13–17 who’ve experienced homelessness, trauma, or family breakdown.

Over three days, we shared nature walks, yoga games, gentle flows, restorative pajama yoga, somatic tools and creative moments like building a nature mandala from leaves and sticks gathered on our walk. 🍂🌿🍁

There was laughter, reflection, connection and a fire ceremony, to symbolically release what felt like needed burning 🔥 followed by marshmallows under the stars 😋✨

This retreat was close to my heart. As someone who left home very young and has walked my own path of healing, it was both tender and deeply rewarding to hold space for these girls, to offer a glimpse of safety, belonging, and joy through yoga, nature, and community.

I'm grateful to and the incredible team at Lillian’s for the work you do every day 🙏
