Neck and shoulder pain creeping up throughout the day because you're sitting with sloppy posture?

This puts a lot of strain on the joints nerves and soft tissue of the spine which can certainly cause pain.

A quick way to improve your posture is to suck your tongue up to the roof of your mouth, which makes it a lot harder for your head to stick forward and improves your posture.

Knowing you're going to get back pain while standing is definitely a way to discourage you from using your stand-up desk.

Here is a free and easy hack to lessen the chance of getting back pain while standing.

Place your knee on a chair with the chair being pushed underneath the desk. You don't want the chair to stop you from getting in comfortably close to your computer.

Things to avoid are leaning on the desk and putting your weight completely over one leg by pushing a hip out to the side.

Stress has been proven to make back pain worse plus I hear it from my clients all the time.

Stretching and regular movement breaks are really helpful but you can add to this by tapping into your nervous system to actively calm it down which is really powerful in helping to reduce pain.

Box breathing:

1. Breathe in for 3
2. Hold breath in for 3
3. Breath out for 3
4. No breathing for 3
5. Repeat

You can play around with how fast or slow you do this as well as how many cycles you do .

I love having more time with my kids during the school holidays. Today, my son wanted to grow an avocado tree from a seed. Thank goodness for the internet as I had no idea it needed to be wrapped in paper towel for up to 8 weeks.

We often drink less water in winter, but staying hydrated is crucial for keeping your muscles and joints healthy. Herbal teas and warm water with lemon are great alternatives if you’re not keen on cold drinks. Hydration helps maintain your spinal health and overall well-being, so keep sipping!

Keeping warm is essential to prevent muscle tension and strain. Make sure you’re dressing in layers – think thermal layers, cosy jumpers, and supportive jackets. And don’t forget a scarf to keep your neck warm! Stay toasty, stay healthy!

It’s tempting to hibernate indoors during winter, but staying active is key to avoiding stiffness and back pain. Even simple indoor exercises like stretching or yoga can keep your muscles flexible and strong. A short walk around your house or garden can also do wonders. Remember, movement is medicine for your spine!

Because winter often means more time indoors, making good posture more important than ever. Whether you’re working at your desk or relaxing on the couch, remember to keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed. Avoid slouching, and use supportive chairs and cushions if needed. Good posture is a simple but powerful way to protect your spine!
