Whilst some people rely on their morning coffee to open their bowels each day, others avoid it for this very reason!

The guidelines recommend limiting caffeine to 400mg per day (that’s 4 shots of espresso!) or 200mg if you are pregnant.

Whilst we all love the feelings chocolate can provide, it is good to know that it’s caffeine content may impact sleep at night.

The SMILES Trial, was the first randomised controlled trial to attempt to answer this question.

It demonstrated a positive effect of dietary improvement as a treatment for clinical depression, establishing – for the first time –that diet can be modified to successfully treat even severe clinical depression.

The finding has since been replicated, and a meta-analysis, involving 16 randomised controlled trials and more than 45,000 participants, also confirms that dietary interventions improve depressive symptoms.

Note: we don’t advocate stopping your anxiety or depression medication or visits to your psychologist.

Food is seen as an adjunct therapy… something that can help support your current regime.

Research shows a strong link between employee wellbeing and key business outcomes such as productivity, retention, recruitment and organisational performance.

Happiness is considered as one of the 4 key measures of workplace wellbeing, along with:
☝️Job satisfaction
☝️Stress and
☝️Purpose

And, having enough ‘discretionary’ time is considered key to happiness (I.e. more than 2-hours per day).

Whilst we all ‘gained’ time from working at home and not commuting during Covid, the decrease in social connection and blurring of lines between work and home activities have impacted the value of that extra time.

It has increased our sense that we should always be working! No wonder stress is on the rise and mental health outcomes are declining!

Some research suggests that it is not the amount of ‘discretionary’ time you have, but how you spend it.

Optimising how you spend your time in the office and at home may be the answer.
