Can owners use unoccupied visitor parking spaces? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ

You arrive home after a long day at work. There's no nearby street parking, and your primary car is parked in your allocated space - but you do notice that one of the visitor parking spaces is vacant. Is there really any harm in parking there, even just for the night?

The rules are clear: these spaces are for visitors only. Owners and tenants cannot use visitor parking, even if the spaces appear unoccupied. Most schemes enforce this through strict by-laws, and misuse can result in penalties.

By-laws set the rules for living in your building, covering everything from renovations to pets and parking. Itโ€™s important to know what applies in your scheme.

The easiest way to get a copy is through your strata manager. You can also find them on the strata roll, or request a search of records through NSW Land Registry Services.
