Recent studies have shown that excessive social media use can negatively impact mental health. For instance, young Australians who spend more than seven hours a day on social media report significantly higher levels of depression (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8834625/). This is a concerning trend that highlights the need for a balanced approach to social media use.

Moreover, a significant number of young people in Australia have cited social media as a major factor in worsening their mental health. They report higher levels of anxiety, depression, and psychological distress linked to prolonged social media use (https://headspace.org.au/our-organisation/media-releases/young-people-cite-social-media-as-main-reason-for-worsening-mental-health/). It's clear that while social media can be a great tool for staying connected, it can also have serious downsides.

Interestingly, many Australians have recognized this issue and are taking steps to address it. A large proportion of Gen Z and Millennials have taken breaks from social media to improve their mental health (https://au.yougov.com/health/articles/47536-half-of-genz-and-millennials-in-australia-have-taken-a-social-media-break-for-their-mental-health). This shows a growing awareness and proactive approach to managing the impact of social media on mental well-being.

If you find that social media is affecting your mental health, consider taking regular breaks and setting boundaries around your usage. Remember, it's important to prioritize your mental health and well-being.

Let's support each other in creating a healthier relationship with social media. Feel free to share your thoughts or tips on how you manage your mental health in the digital age.
