Birchtree DBT Group starting soon Tuesday 18 February 2025

Our DBT group at Birchtree follows the structure and skills of Marsha Linehan’s original 4 core modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.

Our groups are led with a gentle and trauma-sensitive approach. We promise that there are no awkward icebreakers, hackey sacking, or roleplays!

In this group we will also be learning about the nervous system (Polyvagal theory) which compliments and expands upon the ideas and skills in DBT. Learning about our nervous systems helps us to notice our felt experiences, which can serve as powerful reminders to use DBT skills. In doing so, we replace old reactive behaviours with responsive, regulating resources.

Why is this group only 8 weeks long?
We get that many people simply do not have the time to commit to traditional full day groups and might need to fit this kind of learning around work, study, family etc. We believe that you can learn a lot in 8 weeks. If you have done DBT before, this could be a useful refresher. If you haven’t, this will be a useful group to develop practical skills to help with managing emotions, distress, and relationships. Join us for an insightful webinar on Trauma and Habits, where we’ll explore how emerging research in neuroscience offers hope for creating change after trauma. Discover how the brain’s remarkable ability to adapt can help you form fresh habits and become unstuck from habits that no longer serve you.
You’ll learn how the practice of repeated behaviours can reshape neural pathways, making it possible to break old patterns and establish new, more supportive routines.

In this webinar, we'll dive into the definition and significance of habits, examining how both personal and societal influences shape them.

You will learn:
a deeper understanding of the brain’s role in habit formation, the neurobiology behind it.
how trauma can impact the development of certain behaviours.
about your existing habits and explore how they reflect your identity.
By identifying effective strategies, you’ll leave with the tools needed to facilitate the adoption of new, transformative habits that align with your goals and well-being.

Boundaries can be covered by the simple question – “What is and isn’t okay with me?” Most people find them emotionally complex to grapple with! Boundaries provide the foundation for every relationship, including the relationship with ourselves. Think of them like retaining walls that protect you – without having them confidently in place, everything else might seem wobbly and insecure.

Boundaries help to define what makes you You! Through your boundaries you can communicate who you are and what you stand for. In simple language, boundaries are the way you keep yourself safe and protected.
