On Nov. 11, St. Martin’s Day is celebrated throughout Germany, commemorating the end of the harvest season. On that day, German children traditionally walk through their towns carrying lanterns and singing traditional songs.

This tradition that might remind some Boston residents of something else: the lantern festival of the Jamaica Plain neighborhood, a similar celebration commemorating the start of fall.
