Tomorrow we will commemorate October 7, marking two years since we witnessed the heinous attacks in Israel. A day our community will never forget, and will forever mourn.

It can feel conflicting to celebrate Sukkot when we are holding the grief of what we have lost and the anxieties of what may come. This Sukkot, we will experience the paradox of Jewish life — that even in moments of celebration, we remember brokenness. As we dwell in the sukkah, a temporary, fragile hut, we are deliberately reminded of our vulnerability.

It’s understandable to feel stressed, tired, overwhelmed, and troubled with everything going on, especially in a week like this. If you need to talk to a professional, please call us on 1300 133 660. Our phone lines are answered from 9am – 5pm, Monday – Thursday and 9am – 4pm on Fridays.

Rosh Hashana is such a special time, and we wish each and every person in our community a sweet new year spent with family and friends.

We know that once again, this year feels different. We each carry the weight of what has been lost, and the fears of what may lie ahead.

Yet as we look forward, we hold hope for peace for our community and the safe return of all hostages. May this year be filled with moments of joy, and may we find the strength to meet the challenges to come.
