Holding a newborn baby is a joy I never take for granted as an OB. But it’s extra special when that baby is your own! And here he is ! Our 3rd child! Very big (4kgs) and exceptionally cute. Many thanks to our exceptional team of midwives, doctors and fantastic hospital.

June is CMV awareness month.

June is CMV Awareness month!

Please help us spread the word, not the virus, by sharing this post and raising your hands to STOP CMV.

CMV is the most common viral cause of disabilities to newborn babies.

1 to 2 children are born with disabilities from congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) every day in Australia alone. That’s around 400 babies every year.

CMV can cause deafness, blindness, seizures, global developmental delay, dyspraxia, cerebral palsy, miscarriage, stillbirth, intellectual disability, processing issues, feeding problems and death.

Until a successful vaccine is developed, being aware of the virus and the simple ways to minimise risk of contracting it will help to significantly reduce the number of babies born with congenital CMV.

Lets make sure every woman knows to ask their Doctor about CMV before pregnancy.
