Our Children’s Ambulatory Care Service (CAS) has a new sensory room and children’s play areas in honour of Sebastian, a cherished young patient who sadly passed away at the age of three from a metabolic degenerative condition, also known as Niemann Pick.

The new sensory room and multiple children’s play areas came from Sebastian’s family, who donated $25,000 as a thank you for the high-quality care Sebastian received.

“As a team we came together and decided building the sensory room and play areas was the best way to honour Seb’s memory, it’s something he would have loved,” team member Jenny said.

“It was so important to us that we created a space fit for all patients, no matter their illness, age, or mobility requirements, and it was great to see everyone celebrating this together.”

The team held a special afternoon tea in loving memory of Sebastian and many families came together to celebrate his life, and the amazing new installations that have been put in place in his honour.

Did you know there are 9 million Australians who say they support organ and tissue donation but haven’t yet signed up?

Here in Australia, your family will always be asked to support your decision before donation goes ahead. They are much more likely to agree if they know you’re registered and want to be a donor.

Construction started in late 2019. The project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in partnership with South Western Sydney Local Health District and is due for completion in late 2023.
