Southern Australia's Great Southern Reef is a global climate change hotspot - and home to one of the ocean's most extraordinary creatures.

The weedy seadragon is found nowhere else on Earth. But recent environmental disasters off NSW and South Australia have caused mass strandings of thousands of seadragons, threatening their long-term survival.

That's why Seadragon Conservation has been formed - a partnership between UTS Fish Ecology Lab, jeweller and conservationist (and former UTS student) Jordan Askill, and SeaLife Sydney Aquarium - to strengthen research, raise awareness, and fight for this iconic species.

Led by Professor David Booth, preeminent seadragon researcher globally, the initiative spans field research into climate-driven sea warming and kelp loss, public outreach through sculpture and film, and improving captive populations as a safety net for the wild.

The weedy seadragon is now listed as threatened on the IUCN Red List. Seadragon Conservation is leading the charge for its survival.

5 returned to campus to inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals! Graduates of the Bachelor of Construction Project Management from the University of Technology Sydney: Tiarna Cominos (Site Engineer at Hickory), Nicholas Tsai (Site Engineer at Taylor), India Hearne (Site Engineer BESIX Watpac), Jade Biazzo (Site Engineer at Taylor Australia) and Sophie Sidgreaves (Site Engineer at Richard Crookes Constructions) - all Site Engineers across leading NSW builders - joined a panel sharing their cadetship journeys with current architecture, property economics and project management students.

From landing cadetships to balancing full-time study and work, their honesty and generosity made for a brilliant evening - capped off with a networking session with UTS students, who were eager to get a professional career advice.

Because sometimes, the most meaningful part of growth is being able to return and open the door for others to follow.

A special thank you to Sapphira Chu and Cindy Vuong, Co-Presidents of the Built Environment Association, for hosting the evening and supporting the coordination of the event.
