🌟 Worth the Read! 🌟 An inspiring partnership story that showcases the incredible outcomes we can achieve when collaborating with like-minded organisations like UnitingCare QLD &

Late in 2023, our South East Region Intensive Foster Care program had a client in need of a new disability specific chair for everyday use, as she is not able to stand or walk and needs to be kept comfortable. Her old chair had been previously donated by a friend of her carers, and was very dilapidated and old.

Our worker Charlotte set about trying to obtain a new chair through various avenues. The client's NDIS plan did not have sufficient funding allocated, and this style of chair is very expensive, so Charlotte started to explore avenues within UnitingCare, to see if there was possibly a decent second hand one available somewhere within the broader organisation.

Early in 2024, we were contacted by Zak from the Contract Management team, who had identified a supplier who may possibly be willing to donate a suitable chair for our client. After a few weeks of figuring out logistics etc. a date was set in February for Danny Webster, the representative from Alpha Lifecare to personally deliver the X6 chair to the client at her home.

Danny had prepared the chair with balloons and a lovely teddy bear for the client, (see pics) and met with Andrew Phillips and Charlotte Reddy at the carers home to present the chair to the client. Despite best laid plans, upon arrival, the client was experiencing a medical episode, so the handover was a little subdued, but the client nonetheless loved the teddy bear!!

Huge thanks go to Alpha Lifecare for stepping up and helping our little girl out. It can be a real struggle finding or obtaining all of the funding required to best help our clients with significant disabilities and this kind gesture means the world to our carers and client.
