🌟 Celebrating Our Wonderful Nurses 🌟

On International Nurses Day, we celebrate our exceptional nurses and carers at Opal HealthCare whose dedication and compassion bring our purpose – to bring joy to those we care for - to life every day.

This year's theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” emphasises the essential role skilled healthcare team play in caring for and enabling the wellbeing of vulnerable people.

As Australia’s population ages, the need for competent, confident team to care for people with complex needs is more important than ever.

Our sector-leading Nurse Graduate Program, delivered through our Opal HealthCare Academy in partnership with tertiary education providers, guides graduate nurses from tertiary study into clinical practice at our Care Communities.

An extraordinary 599 nurses have participated in the program since its inception in 2023, and we’re proud to be playing our part in helping to build a skilled workforce to support older Australians.

Alex speaks warmly about the love, care, and support his mum, Susan, who lives at Broadwater Grove Care Community has given him throughout his life. Today, he feels grateful to be by her side, sharing moments and continuing to make special memories together.

To all the Mums and mother figures at our Care Communities and beyond, we wish you a Happy Mother’s Day! 💐❤️

At Wallarah Point Care Community, caring for our coast is part of caring for our community 🌊♻️

For the past three years, a resident-led recycling initiative has been turning plastic bottles into meaningful support for local organisations. Each month, residents and team members visit the local Return and Earn to recycle together, knowing every cent from recycled bottles contributes to impact for their community.

Residents Leila and Lola proudly joined team members Julie and Tan to present the awards for Soldiers Beach Surf Lifesaving Club’s Nipper and Nipperette of the Year — awards sponsored by Wallarah Point to recognise the next generation of surf lifesavers.

“It’s wonderful to support our younger generation and give back to the community,” says Lola. “It’s a great reminder that caring for our environment isn’t just for the young — our older generation is proud to lead the way too.” 💚

Staying strong and steady together! Throughout April, residents and team members at Ashfield Terrace Care Community came together for a range of engaging activities designed to promote balance, strength, and falls prevention awareness — all while enjoying plenty of smiles and connection.

From safely decorating mobility aids with personal flair, to encouraging hydration, and interactive “safety detective” activities promoting safe habits around our Care Community, there was something for everyone.

Residents and team also participated in Steady & Strong exercise sessions and a lively Zumba class that kept the energy high 💃

April Falls was a wonderful reminder that falls prevention is everyone’s business – and that staying active, informed, and connected helps us all stay strong and steady together 💙

The spirit of the ANZACs lives on as residents, family, visitors and team gathered to share a quiet moment of reflection at Marsden Park Care Community, commemorating ANZAC Day.

Resident Tom, who joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) at just 18 and served for 21 years, recited one of his many poems honouring those who courageously served and their families. He was joined by his daughter, Catherine, who continues Tom’s legacy through her service as a Wing Commander with the RAAF.

At our Care Communities across Australia, we remember, honour and thank all who have served, and those who continue to serve.

Lest we forget.

Zoom zoom! Our car-loving residents recently enjoyed a trip down memory lane during a vintage car show at Orange Grove Care Community 🚗☀️

An impressive collection of classic cars set the scene for an afternoon of stories and shared moments. The day held special meaning for resident Richard, a lifelong vintage car enthusiast and former President of the Orange Vintage Car Club, who loved watching the cars arrive — many driven by old friends.

Richard’s passion for classic cars was also shared by fellow residents Frank and June, who proudly own vintage cars of their own.

With a BBQ and plenty of conversation under the sun, it was a wonderful afternoon of connection, community, and shared history at Orange Grove. 💛

From handmade creations to wagging tails, community spirit was on full display at Bankstown Terrace Care Community’s third Annual Market Day 🧺

Held in support of Sydney Dogs and Cats Home 🐾, our residents, team, families, and visitors raised $1,500 at a lively day of connection and giving back.

Our craft stall was a highlight, featuring handmade jewellery and artwork created by our residents and enthusiastically coordinated by fellow resident Elizabetta. 🎨✨

With a raffle, sausage sizzle, and live entertainment, our market buzzed with activity. Supported by our team, residents enjoyed strolling the stalls, engaging with visitors and sharing a memorable day together. 💛

A colourful family legacy continues at Geraldton Shore Care Community in Western Australia. 💝✨

Mother-and-son duo Peta and Edge have dedicated 11 and five years respectively to caring for our residents and the wider Geraldton community — continuing a proud tradition started by Peta’s mum, Betty, who worked at Geraldton Shore for 20 years.

Known for her unique handmade hats, Peta brings colour, skill and imagination to our Care Community, with each creation sparking smiles and a sense of belonging for our residents. 👒🎩

"Wearing a different hat every day gives people something new to talk about, and everyone feels included,” says Peta.

When Peta took some time away to care for Betty, Edge proudly kept that tradition going — wearing a different hat each day to honour his mum and grandmother and continue the much-loved tradition.

Community connection is a way of life at Narraweena Grove Care Community on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Our talented resident knitters Christa and Patricia combined their skills with a deeper purpose, crafting more than 40 beautiful scarves and squares to help the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter support people in need. 🧣

For Christa and Patricia, knitting exercises fine motor skills, keeps the mind active, and is an essential part of their wellbeing. And every stitch is driven by a sense of purpose.

“It feels good to help people,” says Patricia. And that love and empathy is knitted into every gift that brings dignity and a sense of self to women and children the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter supports. 💜🧶

Home-grown goodness at Bossley Parkside Care Community 🥕🍃

Our residents have been busy tending to their herbs and veggie patch, watching each little sprout grow into a garden full of flavour.
Their care has delivered a lovely harvest of fresh produce now being used in our meals. 🥗

Rosa proudly calls this thriving patch her ‘home garden’, and as you can see, she’s very pleased with the results.

International Women’s Day may have been on Sunday, but Joan’s story is too good not to share. ✨

For years, Joan devoted herself to her family, working tirelessly without a single holiday to ensure her children were raised with love and care.

At 60, while most people are looking towards retirement, Joan started university – and went on to graduate with two degrees.

Today, at 86, she’s our social butterfly, knitting group leader, and a resident ray of sunshine at Marsden Park Care Community. ☀️

She’s proof that you can reinvent yourself at any stage of life.

We asked Joan to share some words of wisdom – and her message is well worth hearing. 💛
