Partnership, Purpose and Progress.

NAIDOC Week is just around the corner — a time to reflect, celebrate, and share. This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, reminds us of the role we all play in shaping a future grounded in unity and respect.

Today, Vivid Indigenous Services, Gadi Services and MTC Australia came together in that spirit. The morning tea featured a moving Smoking Ceremony, alongside the voices of programme participants, who generously shared their stories of mentoring, training, employment, growth and hope.

This gathering reflected what NAIDOC Week is all about: strong partnerships between business and community, working together to empower the next generation.

Recently, Vivid Client Solutions Manager Lisa Agnew had the pleasure of sitting down with Melissa and Cooper to hear their stories. This week, we’re privileged to share a glimpse into Melissa’s journey—a powerful story of courage and resilience.

Melissa grew up in Tabulam, a small rural town on Bundjalung Country, nestled beside the Clarence River between Tenterfield and Casino. With a population of just 450, Tabulam is a place where community runs deep—and so does strength of spirit.

Driven by determination, Melissa made the courageous move from her hometown to Sydney. Stepping out of her comfort zone, she enrolled in the MTC Australia Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) programme and was supported by Matt White at Gadi Services. Through the combined efforts of GADI and MTC, Melissa received culturally safe mentoring, education, and career development support designed specifically for First Nations Peoples.

This support not only helped Melissa build her confidence and job readiness skills but also created a pathway into meaningful employment.

Today, Melissa is a proud and valued member of the Vivid team, working at the University of Technology Sydney as a cleaner. Her journey reflects the strength and potential that can grow when opportunity and support come together.

We look forward to sharing more of both Melissa and Cooper’s inspiring stories.
