Sydney Sexual Health Centre

Sydney Sexual Health Centre Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) is the oldest sexual health service in NSW, operating since 1933. You don't need a Medicare card to visit us.

We are a busy centre offering testing, treatment and management for sexually transmissible infections (STI) and HIV. If you think you might have been at risk for an STI or HIV, you can do our online risk assessment Am I OK? This will help us work out if we are the best place to meet your needs. We'll ask you a few questions about your recent sexual activity and at the end, we'll tell you what to d

o next. We primarily deliver services to people in some priority groups, so if you see yourself as belonging to any of these, then SSHC is the place for you. These priority groups include:

People living with HIV
Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men
Sex workers
Aboriginal people
People who inject drugs
Young people

We run the Satellite clinic, a walk-in youth sexual health service on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, in partnership with headspace at Bondi Junction. We offer fast, free and confidential HIV and STI testing for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men at a[TEST] Oxford Street and Surry Hills in partnership with ACON. We have sexual health specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, health promotion officers, researchers and administrative staff. A big THANK YOU to everyone who took part in the GoGo Vax trial at Sydney S*xual Health Centre. Your contribution is helping advance research into better ways to prevent gonorrhoea.

Results from this large study show that the meningococcal B vaccine did not prevent gonorrhoea among gay and bis*xual men. While this outcome may not be what we hoped for, it provides important evidence to guide future research.

In the meantime, the best way to protect yourself is by using condoms or dental dams, along with water-based lubricant, for vaginal, a**l and oral s*x. Regular STI testing is also important.

You can read the full results here: https://www.kirby.unsw.edu.au/news/meningococcal-b-vaccination-does-not-reduce-gonorrhoea-trial-results-show

Close the Gap Day is a time for people across Australia to come together and reflect on how we can improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

In healthcare, that means creating culturally safe spaces, building trust, and working in genuine partnership with First Nations communities.

If you would like support during your visit, our Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers are here to help.

Today is World Social Work Day 💙

Across our services, our social workers, like Lisa, Vincent and Louise in this photo, support people through counselling, advocacy, care coordination and connection to community.

They help reduce stigma, strengthen support networks, and make sure people feel heard, respected and safe.

Today, we recognise and thank all social workers for the compassion and leadership they bring to our services every day.

Good news - more GPs are now bulk billing! If you need an STI test, your local GP can help - and many provide bulk billed appointments, meaning Medicare covers the cost with no out of pocket fee.

Even better, getting checked out with your local GP could get you seen faster than waiting to been seen at a s*xual health clinic.
