🌈 These steps remind us that love and acceptance come in many forms. We are at our best when we live with kindness, authenticity, and respect for ourselves and others.

At Purple Rain Psychology, we believe that growth and healing begin with acceptance. Just as every colour adds to the beauty of a rainbow, every part of who we are deserves space, compassion, and care. 💜

When emotions feel intense or overwhelming, one of the most effective ways to cope is to gently return to the present moment.

At Purple Rain Psychology in Double Bay, we use mindfulness strategies based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to help clients manage distress.

One simple yet powerful tool is the Five Senses Exercise:

✅ Name five things you can see
✅ Listen for a few sounds around you
✅ Notice how your body feels against the chair or floor
✅ Smell something calming like tea or fresh air
✅ Slowly taste something and bring your full attention to it

Mindfulness through the senses is not about avoiding emotion. It is about creating calm so you can respond rather than react.

Feeling stuck, scattered or overwhelmed, even with the best intentions?
ADHD in adults does not always look like hyperactivity. It can show up as missed deadlines, emotional exhaustion, or spinning your wheels on important goals.

We use Goal Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help adults with ADHD move from overwhelm to achieving their goals.

✅ Work with your brain, not against it
✅ Learn practical strategies grounded in self compassion
✅ Medicare rebates are available through a Mental Health Care Plan

Growth is often uncomfortable, messy, and full of feelings you weren't expecting. But it's necessary.

The beauty of change is both the journey and the outcome! Success without challenge is not the ultimate pleasure and does not last long. Try to find meaning in the growth and enjoy the process as it's just as important as the outcome.

Fat shaming and victim blaming language are stupid.

Obesity is not purely a person's food intake. It is part of a broader system that encompasses genetics, environment, activity, food production, societal influence, psychology, and more.
When people or medical professionals use victim blaming language and tell a person who is of a larger body to 'eat almonds' (yes this really happened in a session i was in), it is fat shaming! This is forgetting that obesity is a symptom of a larger system that supports this.
I find this image helpful to understand the many factors of interplay that make us who we are.
Instead of using fat shaming language, start thinking about the broader system and the complex interplay as well as the small percentage of individual responsibility or food choice that makes us who we are.
