The Osseointegration Group of Australia provides a team approach to assist amputees with the possibility of greater and more effortless mobility using the newest innovation in the field of prosthetics, the OGAP-OPL. Through osseointegration surgery Dr Munjed Al Muderis and The Osseointegration Group of Australia provide above and below knee amputees with a leg replacement using the OGAP-OPL implan

t which is designed to be a close to the human anatomy as possible. The surgery involves an implant being inserted into an amputee’s femur or tibia which, when integrated with the bone allows for a simple, quick, safe connection between the stump and the lower prosthesis. Osseointegration surgery provides amputees with greater mobility, comfort and quality of life.

Dashawn, a patient who underwent osseointegration, explains how he is feeling 13 days after surgery.

The bone-anchored prosthesis is where a titanium implant is directly integrated into the residual bone of the amputated limb, and the prosthesis is connected via a clamp connector. Unlike a traditional socket, this can provide much better stability, mobility and quality of life and remove socket-related issues such as sweating, skin breakdown and skin irritation.

Do you wear liners with your socket prosthesis?

Socket liners can be time-consuming to put on and may cause issues such as skin irritation and excessive sweating as you use your prosthesis. This can make it uncomfortable for amputees to use their socket and lead to blisters.

Osseointegration eliminates the need to wear liners thanks to its direct attachment to the bone. This means amputees no longer deal with skin breakdown, irritation, or sweating. Additionally, osseointegration allows you to attach and remove your prosthesis in a matter of seconds, saving you time.

Are you an amputee using a socket prosthesis? We would love to hear from you!

A socket prosthesis may cause issues such as sweating, poor fit, pressure sores and blisters. This can make it painful to wear and move when using a socket and may discourage amputees from regularly using their socket prosthesis.

Osseointegration can help remove socket-related pain and provide better stability and usability. So drop a comment down below and let us know what issues you may be having with your socket prosthesis and how they impact you.

Are you an above-knee amputee?

Above-knee amputees may commonly struggle with poor stability and difficulty manoeuvring due to their short femur length. This can make it hard for amputees to walk and lead to poor fits with their socket prosthesis.

Osseointegration is where a titanium implant is directly integrated into the residual bone of the amputated limb and connected to a prosthesis via a clamp connector. This can aid amputees with short femur lengths with better stability and eliminate issues of poor fitting.

Did you know osseointegration is suitable for both above-knee and below-knee amputees!

Patients with varying amputation levels may face different or similar socket-related problems. These include sweating, skin breakdown, poor fit and instability. This can leave individuals with limited mobility unable to remain active.

Osseointegration can remove all socket-related issues for above-knee and below-knee amputees. Thanks to a direct attachment to the residual bone of the amputated limb, patients may find improved mobility and stability, allowing them to increase physical activity regardless of amputation level.

If you are looking for more information or have any further questions, please send us a direct message or email to enquiry@osseointegration.org, or visit our website at www.osseointegration.org

Individuals with a socket prosthesis may find it difficult and time-consuming to attach and remove their prosthesis. The OPL CC clamp connector allows osseointegrated patients to attach and remove their prosthesis in a matter of seconds, thanks to a direct attachment to the implant which is integrated into the residual bone of the amputated limb.

So patients can spend more time doing what they love.
