If you owned a Furby, played Snake on a Nokia, or hoarded Lip Smackers in your pencil case…

You’ve been around long enough to rethink how we approach behaviour.
Because the strategies we were taught?
Not all of them were built with regulation, safety, or neurodiversity in mind.

This is your invitation to grow:
✨ From control to connection
✨ From compliance to capacity
✨ From reinforcement as a thing to reinforcement as context

The learners you work with today need more than data, they need dignity.

🧠 And if you’re here for the nostalgia and the unlearning, you’re in the right place.

👇 Which slide hit you the hardest? Let’s talk about it.

Nothing like the mental gymnastics of parenting a strong willed child.

Before we assume it’s “poor cooperation,” here are 7 questions worth asking yourself:

⚪ Do they understand what’s being asked?
Maybe the instruction is too complex, or they’re still processing. Keep it simple and concrete.

⚪ Was the instruction too vague?
Saying “clean up” might mean 100 things to a little brain. Try: “Put the blocks in this tub.”

⚪ Is it the wrong time for a big demand?
Hungry, tired, just got home? Timing matters. Even simple requests can feel huge in the wrong moment.

⚪ Are they anxious, overstimulated, or dysregulated?
A busy brain can’t always follow directions. Regulation before expectation.

⚪ Do they need more choice or control?
Compliance often improves with autonomy. Think: “Do you want to start with socks or shirt?”

⚪ Are they motivated?
Sometimes we ask kids to do things that just aren’t meaningful to them yet. Motivation is the bridge to cooperation.

⚪ Are they seeking connection?
“Defiance” is often a bid for attention. Try pausing and engaging warmly before redirecting.

✨ Behaviour is communication. Before we correct, we connect.

Think your little one’s ready for toilet training?

Spoiler: it’s not just about how old they are. There’s no one-size-fits-all age, just the right readiness. ✨

Here’s what the research says:
✔ Some kids seem ready at 12 months—but most won’t finish any faster.
✔ Starting between 1–2 years is possible, but patience is key.
✔ After 2 years? Many kids catch on quicker.
⚠️ But waiting too long (past 3.5 years) can come with its own challenges, but always worth it.

What really matters? Developmental readiness:
✔ Staying dry for 1–2 hours
✔ Sitting on the toilet for 3+ mins
✔ Following simple instructions
✔ Minimal interferring or dangerous behaviours
✔ Managing a bit of self-care (helpful but not necessary)

It’s about timing, development, and context—not just age.

Ready to make toilet training smoother (for them and for you)? Follow for clear, evidence-based support.

Chronically optimistic. Mildly chaotic.

✨ Daily lies I tell myself:
– I’ll go to bed early
– I can leave the house in 5 mins
– I’m totally fine

Here’s what I tell myself (and usually believe) every day as a mum, BCBA and business owner 👇

Every child deserves the best in ABA services.

That’s why at Super Kids, all our consultants are certified.
CBA.
BCBA.
No exceptions.

Why does this matter?
Because certification protects your child.
It means:
✔ Evidence-based plans
✔ Ethical decision-making
✔ Qualified supervision
✔ Real outcomes

A Certified Behaviour Analyst isn’t guessing or giving you tips & tricks.
They’ve done the work.
They’ve passed the standards.
They’re trained to notice what others miss.

We've seen the difference.
So have our families.
This is the minimum standard we choose.
Because your child is not a practice run.

ABA should be safe.
It should be respectful.
It should be done by people who are qualified to help.

And at Super Kids
That’s exactly who we are.

Toilet training is not always harmless.

And when it’s done with pressure or punishment—
It can cause more harm than help.

Think:
Constipation.
Withholding.
Medical complications.
Fear of toileting for years.

This is why we train with:
💛 Respect
💛 Consent
💛 Connection

Because we’re not just teaching a skill—
We’re protecting trust.

Swipe through to learn why this matters.
And save this if you’ve ever felt unsure.

We do not recommend jumping into a large ABA therapy program across all developmental domains without considering some essential skills (‘Must haves’) first! This will guide our initial early intervention goals.

🌱These Must Have skills will be identified and then with your Super Kids Behaviour Consultant, you will decide if these goals will be addressed immediately or in the future. These priority programs are essential for long term successful outcomes.

We strongly believe that people have the right to be taught a repertoire of functional life skills. These skills are fundamental to safety, dignity and quality of life, regardless of age or ability. We use the Necessary Nine from The Essential for Living (EFL; McGreevy & Fry, 2012) - a functional skills assessment, curriculum and progress tracking instrument. This usually includes the following skills:

* Making Requests
* Waiting after making requests
* Accepting Removals — Transitions, Sharing, and Taking Turns
* Completing Required Tasks — Completing Previous Acquired Tasks when asked to do so
* Accepting “No”
* Following Directions related to Health and Safety
* Completing Daily Living Skills related to Health and Safety
* Tolerating Skills related to Health and Safety

Have you ever wondered if the number of times per day or intensity of your child’s tantrums, engages in aggression is normal? Do other children their age bite or stay calm when told no?

We want to learn more about the prevalence and type of challenging behaviour displayed by typically developing Australian children aged 1-10 years and you can help by compleyting this short survey:

https://monash.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2i9subF610IvufQ

💥What are we doing?
Super Kids and Monash University want to learn more about the prevalence and type of challenging behaviour displayed by typically developing Australian children aged 1-10 years. Typically developing means your child does not have a disability. We also want to learn more about adaptive behaviours displayed by typically developing children 1-10 years, including language, communication, and social-emotional skills. By understanding the prevalence and type of challenging behaviour and adaptive behaviour displayed by typically developing children, allied health professionals who support children with disabilities or behavioural problems may be better able to create developmentally appropriate and child-centred early intervention programs.

💥How can you help?
If you are a parent or primary carer of a typically developing child aged 1-10 years and you live in Australia, we invite you to complete a short survey (approximately 3-5 minutes) to tell us about the type, frequency and intensity of challenging behaviour that your child displays and about adaptive behaviours that your child displays.

This research is being led by Chief Investigator Dr Erin Leif (erin.leif@monash.edu) from Monash University and Renee Collins (renee@superkidsconsulting.com) from Super Kids Behavioural Consulting. This research has been approved by Monash University’s Human Research Ethics Committee (Project #41736)

Over the three days when , visted Super Kids, Senior Behaviour technician Mia was reminded of the why behind our work: to create meaningful, compassionate, and individualised interventions that change lives. The conversations, the challenges, and the breakthroughs all left us inspired to keep pushing for better outcomes for the children and families we serve. 💡

💬 Mia’s biggest takeaways:
1. Importance of collaboration within the field: Collaboration is the cornerstone of ethical and effective ABA.
2. Being a Scientist-Practitioner: Throughout the workshop, a recurring theme was the idea of being a scientist-practitioner. Thoughtfully adapting procedures and making data informed decisions allows us to have more meaningful outcomes for our learners
3. Individualisation of treatment

Thank you, Dr. Hanley, and all who made this workshop an unforgettable experience. 🙌 Let’s keep the momentum going!

Together, we’re building a future where our work is as informed as it is impactful.
